An unforgettable festive cruise

Spend an unforgettable Christmas Day at sea, and to welcome the New Year from the lively, welcoming streets of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Leave the British winter behind as Magellan cruises into the Atlantic from London Tilbury, heading to the welcome warmth of Cape Verde, the Canaries and Madeira. Stroll past the brightly painted colonial buildings that line pretty streets of Mindelo on São Vicente, and through the bustling East-African influenced markets of Praia on Santiago. Discover the space-age curves of the seafront Auditorio in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the black-sand beaches and volcanic landscape of Lanzarote. You'll also have time to explore Madeira's capital, Funchal, and the charming, contrasting ports of Rotterdam, Lisbon, Leixoes (for the chance to visit Oporto and its wine lodges) and Vigo on this wonderful, relaxing Christmas cruise.

Your Itinerary

  • Depart: 1600hrs

Head out to Tilbury, today, and board Magellan before her afternoon departure.

  • Arrive: 0900hrs

    Depart: 1800hrs

Rotterdam is more than just a historic city of world-class museums and classically Dutch canals and cobbled squares. It's also a treasure trove of outlandish modern architecture - from the vast modern 'harp' of the Erasmus Bridge to the Cube houses of Overblaak Street. Within the remarkable upturned U of the Markethal you’ll find delicious food to try and buy, and a lively crowd of locals doing exactly that.

  • Spend two days relaxing on board.

  • Arrive: 0700hrs

    Depart: 1430hrs

Today, Magellan makes her way into the stunning natural harbour of Ria de Vigo. A historic fishing port, Vigo bustles with life, especially in the cobbled streets of the old town, where the day’s catch is laid out on granite tables, and cafes serve strong coffee to arriving fishermen - and cruise holidaymakers.

  • Arrive: 0800hrs

    Depart: 1300hrs

The Portuguese capital, Lisbon, stands on the River Tagus, down which the great adventurers sailed during the Age of Exploration. Today’s shore excursion will reveal a city where the maze of narrow, hilly streets of the Alfama district have stood, seemingly unchanged, for centuries, and now offer a striking contrast to the modern city’s glass and steel.

  • Spend two days relaxing on board.

  • Enjoy a Christmas celebration unlike any other as you spend the day at sea in the company of your fellow passengers. You’ll be looked after by the Captain, Officers, crew and entertainment team, who will do everything they can to ensure that the day is one to remember.

  • Arrive: 1300hrs

    Depart: 2000hrs

The volcanic isles of the Cape Verde archipelago in the mid-Atlantic are fast becoming a popular holiday haven. Today, Magellan calls at the island of Sao Vicente, today, and you’ll have time to explore Mindelo, the pretty capital of this colonial outpost, or perhaps take a trip inland.

  • Arrive: 0900hrs

    Depart: 2000hrs

Your second Cape Verde call is Santiago. East African influences are seen everywhere in capital city Praia, particularly in the carved coconut shells, pottery, lacework and basketry made and sold by the islanders. If possible, visit Ciudade Vehla (Old Town), the former colonial capital once visited by Captain Cook, Francis Drake and Vasco da Gama.

  • Spend two days relaxing on board.

  • Arrive: 0800hrs

    Depart: 2400hrs

Spend a day exploring Tenerife as Magellan stops in Santa Cruz, principal port of this famous holiday island. Few places offer such a range of ecosystems and climates, from the warm seas off Playa Del Duque to the snowy slopes of mighty Mount Teide.

  • Arrive: 0700hrs

    Depart: 2100hrs

On the last day of 2020, Magellan arrives in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria’s principal port. Wander the palm-fringed squares and cobbled streets of Vegueta, the port's old town, immerse yourself in the bustle of modern Puerto de la Luz or take an excursion to explore the rugged landscape of Pico de las Nieves or the pristine sand dunes of Maspalomas.

After a wonderful day, return to Magellan for an evening of celebrations to mark the turning of the year.

  • Arrive: 0800hrs

    Depart: 1300hrs

Magellan's final Canaries call is Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. Enjoy the warmth and - hopefully - sunshine of this famous holiday isle, relaxing on its black-sand beaches or perhaps heading to the Fire Mountains in Timanfaya National Park to ride a camel to the edge of a volcano!

  • Arrive: 0900h

    Depart: 1700hrs

Madeira is one of the world’s most beautiful islands, a lush, sub-tropical paradise that's home to some of the most vibrant and exotic flora on Earth. The verdant island capital, Funchal, is a relaxing and captivating place to explore, and you really shouldn't miss the exhilaration of a wickerwork 'toboggan' ride down through the streets from Monte to Livramento!

  • Spend today relaxing on board.

  • Arrive: 1200hrs

    Depart: 1900hrs

The Portuguese port of Leixoes offers the opportunity to join an optional excursion to historic Oporto. Famed the world over for its Port Wine, "Porto" is perched on the granite cliffs above the River Douro, the two banks linked by some vertigo-inducing bridges. Head into the Ribeira district to visit one of the wine lodges for which the city is world-renowned.

  • Spend two days relaxing on board.

  • Arrive: 0800hrs

Disembark in London at the end of a wonderful Christmas and New Year cruise.
