On an immersive journey of discovery encompassing five captivating cities, capture the beauty and diverse culture of some of France and Spain’s most engrossing regions. In beautiful Bordeaux, you’ll benefit from Balmoral’s ability to dock alongside the promenade; simply walk the length of your ship’s gangway and you’re in the city’s UNESCO-listed centre, perfectly placed to discover highlights – such as Cathédrale Saint-André, the Grand Théâtre and Cité du Vin – bursting with rich history and wine heritage. Alternatively, for an in-depth insight into famous wine culture, visit one of Medoc’s small family run vineyards, to learn about producing the legendary local tipples, and taste them at source too.
Visiting Spain’s verdant northernmost regions provides plenty of opportunities for memorable cultural discovery too. You’ll call at the Basque town of Getxo, gateway to Bilbao – famed for its iconic Guggenheim Museum and prestigious restaurants serving traditional local cuisine – and the legendary Rioja wine vineyards; and at Gijon for tours to Avilés,– home of the world renowned Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Centre and several fantastic cider houses. Returning to France, a rare visit to Saint Malo on the gorgeous coast of Brittany allows time to visit the magnificent fortified island of Mont-Saint-Michel, while Honfleur is sure to delight with its fascinating maritime heritage and charming Vieux Basin district.
Days marked above with an anchor include ports where you will be transferred to shore by landing boat. These ports may be inaccessible for customers with mobility difficulties as a result. Any days not listed will be spent at sea.
