Your Itinerary

View a full breakdown of your holiday to help you plan your trip

  • Fly to Kraków, and upon arrival, meet your tour manager and transfer to your luxuriously-appointed city centre hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and exploring your new surroundings, perhaps heading to a café, bar, or local restaurant for dinner.

  • After breakfast, wrap up warm as you’ll be setting off on a walking tour that will really bring to life this seat of Polish kings and former archbishopric of Pope John Paul II.

Kraków is a compact city, ideal for exploring on foot, and at its heart is the great square of Rynek Glówny, medieval Europe’s largest such space. In the middle of the square is the Cloth Hall, a covered market surrounded by the wooden stalls of the Christmas market.
Here, you can browse the market’s festive wares, perhaps with a glass of steaming mulled wine in hand. Don’t miss the glorious St Mary’s Basilica, adjacent to the square, where the traditional custom of the Christmas crib-building may be seen.

Rynek Glówny and the heart of the city are watched over by Wawel Hill, home to the former royal castle and the magnificent Gothic Wawel Cathedral, built on the site of an 11th-century original. South of the hill, bordering the Vistula River, is the Kazimierz district, the historic centre of Jewish culture down the centuries.

Later in the day, you can choose to join an optional excursion to Wieliczka Salt Mine, which dates to the Middle Ages. You’ll descend underground to this UNESCO World Heritage Site, a maze of illuminated saline lakes, intricately carved chambers, and chapels. During your visit, you’ll be led through the tunnels while learning about the traditional methods of salt extraction and the old mining machinery.

In the evening, you’ll return to your hotel to relax and have dinner at your leisure.

  • Once you’ve had breakfast, you’ll have the day completely free to seek out the festive sights of the city at your own pace, perhaps picking up a few last-minute gifts.

After exploring, you’ll begin your celebrations with a traditional lunch at a local Polish restaurant situated within walking distance from the hotel.

  • Merry Christmas! Tuck into breakfast and embrace another free morning and afternoon to spend as you please. Perhaps revisit some of your favourite spots from the walking tour or head to the Christmas markets, which will still be open on Christmas Day.

During the early evening, a special Christmas dinner will be served at the hotel’s restaurant with your fellow travellers.

  • Bid farewell to your hosts as you transfer back to the airport for your return flight after a joyful break.

  • Shops in Europe will generally close from early afternoon on Christmas Eve until 27th December. Included tours and excursions have been chosen for their scenic or historic value.

  • We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

  • If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

  • The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

  • Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

  • Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

  • Rules may have changed since you last travelled to European Union countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The following are useful guidelines which will help you prepare for your next adventure. You do require government issued passport to travel.

Names - It is very important that all passenger names are exactly as per your passport although we do not require middle names.

Passport - Your passport must meet two requirements to travel to an EU country and to Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. It must be: Less than 10 years old on the day you return home (please check the "date of issue") and valid for at least 3 months after the day you return home (please check the "expiry date").

Visa - You do not need a visa for short trips to most EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. You’ll be able to stay for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period.

European Travel Information & Authorisation System (ETIAS) - Commencing in late 2023 or 2024, all citizens of the United Kingdom will require a ETIAS electronic form completed prior to their arrival into the EU and Schengen member countries. The cost for this travel authorisation will be €7.00 per person with exceptions for under 18’s and over 70’s. The latest information and further details can be found at www.etias.com.
