A journey through Germany and Austria
Join Olympia to sail from Rhineland capital Cologne to stylish Linz, and through the engineering marvel of the Main-Danube Canal, on this fascinating journey. Explore the charming cities of Mainz, Frankfurt and Nuremberg, as well as a collection of pretty Rhineland towns including Rudesheim, Wertheim, Wurzburg and Bamberg, before crossing into Austria to discover the beautiful Wachau Valley and stunning Vienna.
Life on board Olympia
There's far more to life on board Olympia than we could possibly fit on one page. Click here to find out more about her facilities and welcoming atmosphere.
Meet the coach in Dover (or Ashford - see below) to cross the Channel. Travelling towards Germany, you'll stop en route for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, re-board the coach to continue your journey to Cologne, where you'll board Olympia. After a first evening meal, head to the ship's bar or retire to your cabin, as the ship slips into the current and begins the cruise.
Enjoy the chance to wander through the pretty altstadt or along the riverfront promenade of Koblenz, this morning, before setting off on a scenic afternoon voyage through the Middle Rhine to Rudesheim, where you're free to spend the evening exploring.
Explore Rudesheim's famous Drosselgasse, this morning, or join our optional excursion to see the quirky wonders of Siegfried's Musikkabinett and enjoy a wine tasting. Later, Olympia sails to Mainz, where an optional walking tour introduces this historic city.
Cruising into the River Main, Olympia makes a call in Frankfurt. Join an optional guided tour to discover the city's historic altstadt, the towering facade of the Kaiserdom church, and the delightful lanes of Sachsenhausen - home to countless cafes and bars serving traditional Ebbelwoi or Apfelwein cider.
This afternoon Olympia arrives in Wertheim. Discover this medieval town - famed for its glassblowing and overlooked by one of Germany's most impressive castles - on this afternoon's included walking tour, which will include the opportunity to see the craftsmen at work.
Olympia moors in glorious Wurzburg, an ancient prince-bishopric nestled beneath steep, vine-covered slopes. Enjoy an optional morning's excursion to the UNESCO-listed Residenz, a magnificent Baroque palace overlooking the city's altstadt (old town). Explore the palace's interior and stunning gardens, and indulge in some wine tasting, before re-boarding Olympia for this afternoon's cruise.
Following the Main's meandering course upriver, Olympia arrives by lunchtime in beautiful Bamberg. Take the shuttle bus from the ship into the city's centre and discover its medieval splendour - including the exquisite Altes Rathaus - on an optional walking tour accompanied by an expert local guide.
This evening, begin the transit of the extraordinary Main-Danube Canal.
Olympia arrives in Nuremberg, its rebuilt half-timbered houses and narrow lanes seemingly unchanged in centuries. Join our optional coach tour, revealing the ancient Rathaus (parliament building), the twin-spired Sebalduskirche and the imposing fortress of the Kaiserburg.
Olympia enters the Danube at Kelheim, where the river is overlooked by high cliffs, and continues to majestic Regensburg. Discover this wonderfully preserved medieval trading city on an afternoon's walking tour of the old town.
Today brings the chance to explore Passau, situated at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers, and at the border between Bavaria and Austria. Join our optional tour of the Italianate city, and enjoy a recital in the ornate St Stephan's Cathedral, played on the 17,000-pipe church organ - Europe's largest.
Olympia arrives in Melk, beneath Austria's most celebrated Benedictine Abbey, Stift Melk. Join our optional excursion here and explore the vast church, ornate Baroque interior, Imperial rooms and museum. This afternoon, Olympia heads into the stunning Wachau Valley, before mooring close to Vienna.
Discover Vienna, the city of 'coffee and cake', of Strauss waltzes and of the Habsburg Empire on our optional guided tour this morning. Later, a final afternoon's cruise takes us to Linz, where our journey culminates.
Bid 'auf wiedersehen' to Olympia, and board the coach to begin your journey home, stopping for an overnight stay en route.
After breakfast this morning, continue your journey home to the UK.
Flexible joining options
Our flexible joining options allow you to travel on any date, and as an added convenience we've arranged two possible pre-departure options for you. Make your own way to the Holiday Inn Ashford North and stay the night (car parking is included), and our coach will call for you at the hotel on the way to the Channel.
Alternatively, make your own way to the Stop 24 Services in Kent (M20, Junction 11), and board the coach there. Parking is available (payable locally), and we'll confirm the exact meeting point and time in your Joining Instructions.
Please note that the 22 August sailing is operated in reverse, with embarkation in Linz and disembarkation in Cologne. Ports of call and all inclusions are the same.
On rare occasions, the Captain may need to alter the Cruise Itinerary. If this happens, the Cruise Manager will keep passengers informed.
The majority of cabins on board are 10.5m square. Single cabins are approximately 7.7m square. (These measurements include the bathroom.) Standard Promenade cabins are 15m square and most have double beds (which do not convert to sofas), but they do not have a table or stool and will by subject to engine noise during overnight and early morning sailing.
Pre-paid drinks package
Spend just £19.50 per person per night, and enjoy unlimited draught beer, house wine and soft drinks (including water, tea and coffee) between 10am and midnight while on board Olympia. All other drinks are not included. The drinks package must be purchased by every person occupying a particular cabin.
Optional shore excursions
Optional excursions are available on all cruises, and we recommend that you book now to secure your place. If the number of bookings needed to operate any excursion is not reached, the excursion may be cancelled. In this case your payment will be refunded in full.
The tap water on board is safe to drink, but may not be to your taste due to the purification system.
Where possible, non-rigid suitcases are easier to store within your cabin.
The dress code on board and ashore is casual. After 7pm, in the lounge and restaurant, shorts are not permitted, and footwear and a shirt or T-shirt must be worn.
Tipping is not compulsory, but from experience we know that many passengers like to leave gratuities for the crew. An envelope will be left in your cabin for this purpose.
