Enjoy a wonderful day's cruising in waters teaming with bird and aquatic life.
Marco Polo makes a call in the exquisite port of Klaksvik, capital of the northern cluster of Faroe Isles. The inhabitants of this remote Danish outpost are direct descendants of the Vikings, and still speak an ancient Norse language. Klaksvik, surrounded by conical-shaped mountains, is gateway to a green land that is a birdwatcher's haven, and today's shore excursions will offer the opportunity to explore and marvel at it.
This evening, Marco Polo cruises from Klaksvik to the Faroese capital, Torshavn, docking around midnight.
Torshavn is the tiny capital of the remote Faroe Islands. Explore the city's confusion of lanes and narrow passages, or join an excursion to other parts of the islands, perhaps to cross the famous Bridge across the Atlantic that connects the main island of Streymoy with smaller, wooden-church dotted Eysturoy.
Lerwick, the Shetland Islands' rugged capital, is a gateway to an ancient land of legend, traditional crafts and an incredible abundance of birdlife. Discover the town, or join the excursion to the 3000-year-old archaeological site at Jarlshof, with its Bronze and Iron Age remains.
Today Marco Polo arrives in Kirkwall, historic capital of Orkney. Wander the meandering streets and marvel at the magnificent St Magnus Cathedral, or join an excursion to historic Scapa Flow, Churchill's famous Barriers or the Italian Chapel. Other excursions reveal the island's unique mix of history, archaeology, crafts and wildlife.
Relax on board as Marco Polo sails back the UK.
