Full Itinerary

Day One

Board Marco Polo in Bristol today, and settle in to your cabin as she prepares to set sail.

Days Two and Three

Spend the first two days relaxing, and getting to know the ship, her crew and your fellow passengers.

Day Four

The Portuguese capital Lisbon is Marco Polo's next port. Stroll the narrow streets of the Alfama district, and climb aboard one of the city's famous trams. See the extraordinary Manueline architecture of the Belem quarter, and the striking modern buildings of the Baixa.

Day Five

Relax on board as Marco Polo spends another day at sea.

Day Six

The first of our Canaries calls is Arrecife, capital of Lanzarote, where black sand beaches fringe warm waters. You'll have the chance to head to 'fire mountain' and to take a camel ride to the edge of a volcano.

Day Seven

Today Marco Polo ties up in the Las Palmas, Gran Canaria's principal port. Step ashore to explore the bustling metropolis of modern Puerto de la Luz, or head to the palm-fringed squares of the old town, Vegueta, and perhaps take a shore excursion inland for some superb views.

Day Eight

Today's call is sun-kissed Santa Cruz, principal port of the famous holiday isle of Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands.

Day Nine

Madeira is one of the world's most beautiful islands: a sub-tropical paradise, home to some of the most colourful and exotic flora on Earth. Explore the island capital, Funchal, or dare the exhilaration of a wickerwork 'toboggan' ride from Monte to Livramento.

Day 10

Relax on board as Marco Polo spends another day at sea.

Day 11

Our final call, at the Portuguese port of Leixoes, gives you the chance to join an excursion to the historic city of Oporto, in its pretty setting on the River Douro. The excursion will include a visit to one of the Port wine lodges and time for sightseeing.

Days 12-13

A final few days are spent at sea, no doubt reliving the memories your cruise holiday as Marco Polo heads for home.

Day 14

Bid farewell to Marco Polo and all your fellow travellers, today, as you disembark at the end of your cruise.

Cabin was very disappointing for an upgrade to a so-called luxury cabin. No bigger than a standard. Ship a little shabby and showing its age. Food was okay. Best part of the Marco Polo was the entertainment. Destinations were good, especially Lisbon, Las Palmas and Funchal.

We enjoyed all the excursions but felt the cost of the coach into Porto was excessive.

We have sailed with CMV on several occasions and once again were not disappointed in the service and itinerary. A convivial 12 days.

The negative areas on this cruise at this time of year were the 2 days at sea periods. We have travelled on Marco Polo before with no undue affects but on this trip despite relatively calm weather (we believe force 6 was the worst) the ship did seem to roll enough to cause many to experience some motion sickness we will look for daily port calls next time.

Overall a very enjoyable trip. Ports of call were interesting and excursions were good. The entertainment team were excellent and presented fun and exciting evening shows. However the ship needed some refurbishment. Some members of the crew, particularly restaurant/bistro staff, were abrasive bordering on rude with customers. Food was good though not exceptional.
