Day One

Fly to Italy and transfer to your four-star hotel in Pompeii, close to the world-famous ruins of the Roman city that was both destroyed and preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79. Rest and relax after your journey, take in your surroundings, and enjoy your first evening in the hotel.

Day Two

Join your Tour Manager for a guided tour of Pompeii's ruins, just a short drive or a 20-minute stroll from the hotel. Enjoy a fascinating morning amid the preserved remains of cobbled streets, frescoed houses, baths, temples and the amphitheatre, gaining an insight into the lives of the former inhabitants.

This afternoon, board the coach for a journey along the Amalfi Drive, which winds its way around the cliffs above the blue Bay of Salerno. Pass high above Positano, with its Moorish-style pink and white houses, heading to beautiful Amalfi.

You'll return to the hotel for dinner after a wonderful day.

Day Three

Today, we'll head to nearby Sorrento, seemingly built "between the sky and the sea". Don't miss its colourful ports, Marina Grande and Marina Piccola, or bustling Piazza Tasso. During this hugely enjoyable day, you'll also visit an authentic, family-run mozzarella cheese farm to discover one of Campania's most celebrated and traditional foods.

Day Four

Spend an unforgettable day in the Italian capital, where over 2,000 years of history come alive. A guided tour will reveal Rome's Baroque fountains, the Colosseum and the Forum, and the great early Christian basilicas. Soak up the atmosphere before we continue to Chianciano Terme, your base for the next four nights, and dinner at your four-star hotel.

Day Five

Today you'll journey into Umbria to Assisi - a centuries-old place of pilgrimage and home of the Basilica of St Francis - one of Italy's greatest treasures. Travel back to Chianciano through the scenic Apennine hills, pausing en route in the achingly picturesque, walled city of Perugia.

You'll enjoy another dinner at your hotel this evening.

Day Six

Spend a day relaxing in the hotel and exploring Chianciano Terme (the resort's spa waters have drawn visitors for centuries). Alternatively, join an optional excursion to explore the Chianti region's rolling hills, medieval hamlets and walled towns, which includes a wine tasting at a working vineyard.

Day Seven

Exquisite Florence awaits today, where a guided tour will give you the chance to explore the city and its magnificent skyline. See the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, splendid Santa Croce and the medieval Ponte Vecchio bridge. Perhaps make a pilgrimage to the famed Uffizi gallery, and Botticelli's 'Birth of Venus', before a last evening and dinner in Chianciano.

Day Eight

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK, after a wonderful 'Classic Italy' tour.

Further Information

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time on arrival from Rome airport to your hotel is approximately three hours and from Naples Airport, 30 minutes. On departure, the transfer time from your hotel to Rome Airport is approximately two hours and to Naples Airport, it is approximately four hours.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Meals in Italy

Guests on half-board arrangements will be served a three-course evening meal, and can expect a first course of traditional pasta or soup, a main meat or fish course accompanied by one or two types of vegetable, and a simple dessert of fruit, cake or Italian ice cream. Breakfasts will usually consist of bread rolls, jam, cereal, ham, cheese, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Menus will vary from hotel to hotel, but choice will be more limited than in a normal restaurant. In some instances, individual guests who have booked with the hotel independently may be offered a different menu from those who are staying at the hotel as part of a package tour.

Entrance fees

Since some attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 € and 3 € per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your tour manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

We enjoyed the holiday but the tour is not suitable for disabled people with walking difficulties as there is a lot of walking and some of the places we visited was very hilly also not really suitable for families with young children with pushchairs as it would be difficult getting on and off the coach

In general not too bad a holiday. Very disappointed when the itnerary said a day in Rome when it actually worked out about 2 hours. Very rushed visit to Saint Peters square, just 45 minutes that included queuing to get in. Staff at the hotel in Pompeii were very surly and it was an effect to get food orders right. Also having a free day before travelling back wasn't very useful. Halfway through the week would have been better. The tour guide Alex was brilliant though.

Holt Norfolk Couple
we had a lovely time in Rome and Florence, we would have like more time in Pompeii, we were also asked to pay an additional 13 euros each to enter Pompeii, which we thought was included in the holiday, and we didn't know about the hotel tax in the second hotel either, tour guide was full of information and helpful, bus driver was excellent, flying in with Easyjet with 20 kg and flying out with Ryanair with 15 kg was a joke. first hotel was also in a very run down and dirty area, we didn't feel safe . second hotel was better, staff much more cheerful.

Excellent holiday, although the day off should have been in the middle of the holiday and not the day before we came home. Would have liked longer in Pompeii and Rome
