Ship Information

At 46,000-tonnes and with a passenger complement of around 1100, spacious Magellan retains a sense of traditional cruising and small-ship intimacy, thanks to the beautiful layout and tasteful contemporary style of her public areas, and of course the presence of her friendly, welcoming crew and cruise staff. A major refit in 2010 has ensured her position as a thoroughly modern, bright and supremely comfortable floating home, and she is a hugely welcome addition to the fleet.

Detailed Itinerary

All days not listed are spent at sea enjoying the excellent facilities aboard Magellan. Ports of call may be subject to change.

Days One to Five

Fly to dynamic Singapore, an island-city where a rich history meets glitzy malls, futuristic high-rises, the world's best 'street food' and 'Singapore Slings'.

After an included three-night hotel stay, board the ship and settle into your cabin, ready to begin a wonderful cruise.

Day Six

Continue along the Malaysian coast to historic Port Klang. It's the gateway for Kuala Lumpur, the Malay capital that boasts the sky-piercing Petronas Towers. Step ashore for an excursion into this vibrant city, where the preserved Old Railway Station contrasts with glitzy new developments.

Day Seven

Penang, the colourful, Malaysian 'Pearl of the Orient', offers a feast for the senses - street food, UNESCO-listed George Town, Chinese shophouses, stunning beaches and breathtaking tropical gardens.

Day Eight

Island paradise Phuket, with its luxurious developments, its rubber plantations and bustling main town, provides a last 'taste of the east'. Perhaps visit an idyllic beach for a few days, before Magellan now heads west once more, across the Andaman Sea and on into the Indian Ocean.

Day 12

Arrive in the Indian sub-continent at Chennai, formerly 'Madras'. 'Clive of India' was once a resident here, working as a humble clerk for the East India Company.

Optional shore excursions will reveal relics of the Raj at St Mary's Church, the oldest British building in India, at the Fort Museum, Marina Beach, and the Chepauk Cricket Stadium, or Kanchipuram, renowned for its exquisite hand-woven silks and saris.

Day 14

Spend an afternoon in Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, and explore another bustling city - with its restored Fort area and the ancient street markets of Pettah. Alternatively, choose to join a shore excursion into the lush, temple-dotted countryside.

Day 16

Male is capital of the stunning Maldives archipelago - a wonderfully colourful place, dominated by the dome of the Friday Mosque. Enjoy this last Asian call before Magellan continues across the Arabian Sea.

Day 20

Relax for few days aboard your floating home-from-home, before arriving in Oman. The 'Perfume Capital of Arabia', Salalah, is an ancient settlement where you might step ashore to explore the city or the ancient Khor Rori ruins.

Day 25

The Red Sea port of Safaga brings the chance to enjoy a full-day excursion to Luxor, once the ancient Egyptian capital Thebes. See the Luxor and Karnak temples, the vast columns of the Hypostyle Hall, and the awe-inspiring Valley of the Kings - where Tutankhamun's tomb was uncovered in 1922.

Day 26

Another unforgettable excursion can be taken from the Jordanian resort of Aqaba to the oasis of Wadi Musa. It's the site of the 'Rose Red' City of Petra, famously carved out of the sandstone. The excursion to the 'long-lost' city also takes in Wadi Rum's mesmerising desert landscape.

Day 28

Passage through the world's most famous - and busiest - waterway, the Suez Canal, returns Magellan to the Mediterranean, where a quintet of calls brings the opportunity to discover more wonders in the spring warmth.

Day 29

Another extraordinary day awaits as Magellan ties up in Ashdod, gateway to Israel and the Holy Land. Explore or join a shore excursion, perhaps to the coastal resort of Tel Aviv, with its ancient neighbour Jaffa. Alternatively discover the 'Wailing Wall', the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Mount of Olives and Jerusalem's other fascinating sites.

Day 32

A last Mediterranean island call is made in Malta, where the stunning natural Grand Harbour of Valletta is one of the Mediterranean's most strategically important anchorages. Explore the surrounding streets, or head into the rugged interior, perhaps to the haunting 'Silent City' of Mdina.

Day 35

'More-British-than-Britain' Gibraltar brings a first real taste of home as you stroll past Main Street's familiar shops and stores, or perhaps take the cable-car to the top of the Rock. Look out across the straits for stupendous views to Africa.

Day 36

The ship's final call - perhaps appropriately - is in the great city of Lisbon. Like you, many a historical adventurer returned here after their far-flung voyages. A last shore excursion will introduce the Portuguese capital before you begin your passage home.

Day 39

Magellan arrives back in Tilbury today, at the end of an amazing voyage.
