Slovenia Holiday Itinerary
Fly to Venice, meet your Tour Manager and transfer by coach across the border to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you're free for the rest of the day to settle in and enjoy your surroundings.
Day One: Fly to Venice and transfer to Ljubljana
A guided tour this morning introduces the highlights of Slovenia's capital. Owing to its green spaces, its shady, willow-lined riverside walkways and its traffic restrictions in the city centre, Ljubljana was named the 'Green Capital of Europe' in 2016. A compact, university city, it boasts an enchanting Old Town, elegant Triple Bridge, a wonderful covered market selling crafts and local produce, and a beautiful, twin-towered cathedral. For panoramic views over the city and the Julian Alps beyond, climb the 150 steps of the castle's observation tower, which sits atop a mound above the city's old town.
Day Two: Enjoy a guided tour of Ljubljana
Spend another day exploring Ljubljana, or join our optional excursion to explore the sights of west Slovenia. We'll visit the world famous stud farm at Lipica, where the white horses of Vienna's celebrated Spanish Riding School are bred. Browse the museum to learn about the history of the breed, enjoy a guided tour of the farm and stables and enjoy a remarkable performance as hand-picked stallions are put through their paces in an unforgettable display.
Day Three: Visit Lipica's stud farm, Piran and the Goriska Brda region on an optional excursion
Our journey continues as we travel to the beautiful, Adriatic resort town of Piran, a Venetian-styled gem overlooking the turquoise waters of Slovenia's short coastline. Enjoy a stroll along the promenade and through marbled Tartini Square, then re-join the coach for a scenic ride through the vineyard-covered hills of Goriska Brda, the wine-producing 'Slovenian Tuscany'. We'll visit a cellar for a tasting of the local vintages before returning to Ljubljana for the evening.
See Slovenia's most celebrated destination today as we travel to spectacular Lake Bled. Ringed by forested hills and the snowy peaks of the Julian Alps, Bled is immersed in dramatic scenery. Survey it all from the terrace of famous Bled castle, which overlooks the scene from a lofty perch on the opposite shore, and sail through the emerald waters on an included gondola (pletna) ride to Bled's offshore island, where a glorious Gothic church towers over its leafy slopes.
Day Four: Explore Lake Bled
On today's final included excursion we'll cross the rolling plains of the Karst region, where the landscape of underground streams and caves lends its name to similar topographies across the world. Travel underground by train to visit the giant chasm at Postojna, one of the world's most famous caves. Walk with a personal audio guide through a wonderfully illuminated nether world of stalactites and stalagmites, where the strange 'human fish' - a tiny amphibian - lives out its sightless life.
Day Five: Discover the Karst region
Above ground, our excursion continues with a visit to historic Predjama Castle. This impressive structure is built into a sheer cliff face, and the upper floor stairwells are carved from the bedrock. After a chance to explore and admire the architecture we'll return to Ljubljana for a final evening in the city.
As your holiday in Slovenia comes to an end, you'll transfer to the airport for your flight home.
Day Six: Fly back to the UK
