Day One

We leave your pick-up point early in the morning and head to the Teesside area, stopping en route for the chance to have lunch. We'll then continue to our overnight hotel, arriving in good time to unpack and relax before dinner is served.

Day Two

Enjoy a leisurely start and a full English breakfast before we head to Newcastle's Metrocentre, which is transformed with fabulous decorations and a daily programme of festive entertainment. Browse over 340 shops - famous name and specialist stores - to find perfect presents for all your family and friends.

In the early afternoon we will head to Durham. You're free to explore for the rest of the afternoon, and perhaps have an early evening meal, before joining the crowds to experience the magical Lumiere light festival. Artists, lighting designers and community groups will create a breathtaking series of installations and projections to illuminate the city.

Details have yet to be revealed, but highlights of the 2015 festival included a colossal 'whale' emerging from the River Wear, giant coloured fish dancing in the sky and a projection showing locals climbing the viaduct. And 2017 will once again see artists, lighting designers and community groups working with light to sprinkle winter magic over the city.

Day Three

After a full English breakfast we'll journey to historic York. Visit the glorious Minster or the famous National Railway Museum, walk the city walls or explore the Shambles - medieval cobbled streets full of fascinating shops. We'll head home in the afternoon, arriving back at your pick-up point by mid-to-late evening.

Durham Lumiere Light Festival.

Very long journey both ways and the route was way too long. First day was spent travelling and it would have been nice to have visited Metro Centre on the Friday and then Durham on the Saturday as it was a long day on Saturday although I really enjoyed it.

Hotel room was so small that we could not walk between the two twin beds. It was a single room really but it was clean and warm. Eve meal and breakfast was good.

The weekend itself was great with a great crowd on the coach including the driver and tour manager and lots to see and do. Personally disappointed with Durham's Lumiere Light Festival after the hype given to it from different advertising sources.

We had an enjoyable weekend, Lumiere didn't quite live up to our expectations and we feel it could have been better organised, by the city, however we got to see most of the exhibits. The visit to York on sunday morning was a real bonus having the opportunity to stroll around the Shambles and visit the Christmas Market before heading home.
