Deck Plans

Click here to display the deck plans for this cruise.

Day One

Board the coach at your local pick-up point and travel to Dover for the Channel crossing. Join Olympia in Frankfurt, and enjoy dinner on board as the ship begins her journey along the Main.

Day Two

Following a relaxing morning's cruise downriver, Olympia arrives in Wertheim during the afternoon. This medieval town is renowned for its pretty half-timbered houses and the imposing castle that gazes over the town from its hilltop position. On this afternoon's included walking tour you'll learn about the town's glass-blowing history, and have the opportunity to see some of the local craftsmen at work.

Day Three

Today, explore UNESCO-listed Wurzburg, a beautiful city that marks the start of Germany's Romantic Road. Stroll the picturesque Altstadt (old town) to discover its Baroque architecture, or join our optional guided tour of the Residenz, an impressive palace with beautifully ornate interior and stunning gardens, before returning to the ship during the afternoon as Olympia continues her journey along the Main.

Day Four

Around lunchtime we'll arrive in beautiful Bamberg, a picturesque city with an old town comprised of small islets joined together by little bridges. The city's Altstadt is a wonderful display of medieval architecture, with centuries-old buildings that retain their original splendour. Join an optional walking tour with a local expert guide to discover the history behind this breathtakingly beautiful city, before re-joining Olympia during the evening as she journeys into the Main-Danube Canal.

Day Five

This morning, Olympia moors in Nuremberg, Bavaria's second-largest city, home to quaint, half-timbered houses and packed with architectural wonders. An optional walking tour introduces you to the city's many historic masterpieces, taking in the ancient Rathaus (parliament building), the spires of Sebalduskirche, the central Hauptmarkt (main square), and the great fortress. Re-join Olympia during the evening as she continues along the canal.

Day Six

Olympia sails into the Danube today, entering a stretch of the river lined by soaring, tree-covered cliffs. Pass the Befreiungshalle monument, occupying a secluded spot high up on the banks, before reaching Kelheim, where there'll be an option to disembark and explore famous, nearby Weltenburg Monastery. Olympia then continues to Regensberg, where this afternoon an included walking tour reveals the city's well-preserved medieval centre.

Day Seven

Olympia arrives in Passau this morning, her final stop on our scenic journey. Nicknamed the 'City of Three Rivers', this Italianate city sits on the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers, at the border between Bavaria and Austria. On our optional tour, visit ornate St Stephen's Cathedral, where you'll enjoy a recital played on the 17,000-pipe church organ - Europe's largest. You're free to continue exploring during the afternoon, before re-joining the ship this evening for a final dinner.

Day Eight

Begin your journey home this morning, as we board the coach and travel to the overnight hotel in the Cologne area.

Day Nine

After breakfast, re-board the coach to continue the journey back to the UK.

Further Information

Joining your holiday

Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.

Meal arrangements

Where meals are not included, your coach driver will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.

Alternative itineraries

Please note that for 22nd September 2017 departures, the cruise operates a reverse itinerary from Passau to Frankfurt. All included calls and highlights remain the same.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Pre-paid drinks package

Spend just £17.50 per person per night, and enjoy unlimited draught beer, house wine and soft drinks (including water, tea and coffee) between 10am and midnight while on board Olympia. All other drinks are not included. The drinks package must be purchased by every person occupying a particular cabin.

Where possible, non-rigid suitcases are easier to store within your cabin.

Drinking water

The tap water on board is safe to drink, but may not be to your taste due to the purification system.

Itinerary changes

On rare occasions, the Captain may need to alter the Cruise Itinerary. If this happens, the Cruise Manager will keep passengers informed.

Cabin sizes

The majority of cabins on board are 10.5m square. Single cabins are approximately 7.7m square. (These measurements include the bathroom.) Standard Promenade cabins are 15m square and most have double beds (which do not convert to sofas), but they do not have a table or stool and will by subject to engine noise during overnight and early morning sailing.

Dress code

The dress code on board and ashore is casual. After 7pm, in the lounge and restaurant, shorts are not permitted, and footwear and a shirt or T-shirt must be worn.

Tipping is not compulsory, but from experience we know that many passengers like to leave gratuities for the crew. An envelope will be left in your cabin for this purpose.

Optional shore excursions

Optional excursions are available on all cruises, and we recommend that you book now to secure your place. If the number of bookings needed to operate any excursion is not reached, the excursion may be cancelled. In this case your payment will be refunded in full.

Tortuous journey to the ship. We left home at 4.45am and arrived in Frankfurt around 10.00pm. Absolutely exhausting. Perhaps the flight option would be better, although expensive. No opportunity whatsover to explore Frankfurt. The next day on the coach journey to Passau , we were killing time and ended up waiting nearly an hour for the ship to arrive. The time in the various places was very limited and there was little or no information provided by the cruise manager. However the ship was fine and the service was very good. Food was excellent and plentiful.

Too much travel to reach the ship. three days out of nine were spent on the coach! We did not realise that there was an option to fly.

This holiday like the Rhine trip we did with you last year was relaxing, but they say the Tour Manager can make or break a holiday and we found Norman (unlike Lisa last year) was not altogether helpful with information about the cruise.
Scenery along the trip was nice, Main more picturesque than the Danube but cannot beat the Rhine.
The crew on ship were always helpful and attentive - top marks.

Unfortunately there were many road works on the way to our overnight stay in Frankfurt so we did not arrive at the hotel until 10pm. With the exception of being moored overnight in Passau all other sailings were at night. Most moorings were in industrial areas so there was a need for a shuttle bus. Unable to walk into the towns at our leisure. Give me the Rhine and Moselle any day. Could not fault the ship, crew or staff - always first class.

Very disappointed with holiday, not enough attention paid to comfort and convenience of the customer, corners seemed to be cut to economize.
Not all local guides were very user friendly.
We feel we weren't getting enough information from our tour manager.
We discovered that a lot of people on this holiday paid half what we did and the quality of holiday seemed, to us, to reflect economy.

Chelmsford Couple
This was our first river cruise and we really enjoyed it but, if we were to go again, would probably not book the optional excursions but ' do our own thing' because we found them to be somewhat rushed.
Informal atmosphere appealed to us and party size just about right for getting to know everybody although would have preferred to be able to choose who to sit with at mealtimes.
Comfortable cabins with good facilities.
On-board shop lacking in local information guides and basic necessities (eg toothpaste and confectionery)
Very scenic river views and interesting towns on itinerary.
Beware, though, that dinner is not included on the final night at the hotel.
On the whole, we'd be happy to use Newmarket Holidays again.
