Itinerary

Day One

Leaving your local area, very early this morning you'll journey by coach to the Channel for your crossing to Calais. This evening you'll arrive in Boppard, the picturesque 'pearl of the Rhine', with its great Roman fort and its beautiful historic quarter. Board Olympia in time to enjoy a buffet dinner, and the warmth and welcome of your first night.

Day Two (Christmas Eve)

Early risers will be awake on Christmas Eve as Olympia begins her journey, past little villages, fairytale castles and beneath the legendary Lorelei rock (where sirens were said to lure unsuspecting sailors to their end), to Rudesheim.

Spend the afternoon wandering Rudesheim's pretty streets, or join our late-afternoon optional excursion to enjoy an early evening wine tasting and see the remarkable collection of musical instruments that are found in Siegfried's Musik Kabinett, before returning to Olympia for a special Christmas Eve dinner.

Day Three (Christmas Day)

A very relaxed Christmas Day sees Olympia sail downriver to Koblenz and Konigswinter, one of the Rhine's most delightful cities. Enjoy a celebration Christmas Night Dinner Party on board with a traditional Turkey meal on board, with live music.

Day Four (Boxing Day)

On Boxing Day, Olympia cruises back to Koblenz, at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle, and there's the chance to enjoy an optional excursion to the exquisite wine-producing town of Cochem, picturesquely set on the bank of the Moselle, the Rhine's pretty, smaller sister. The visit will include a chance for you to taste the lovely wines for which the region is famed, before returning to Olympia for a final evening's relaxation.

Day Five

After an early breakfast, bid auf wiedersehen to Olympia and this captivating part of the world as you begin your coach journey home, arriving back in the local area in the late evening.

Further Information

Coach seating arrangements

Your Tour Manager will have allocated seats for you on the main coach in advance, taking into consideration any special requests wherever possible, and will advise you where to sit as you board the coach. This will be your seat for the duration of the tour. (Seats are not allocated on any connecting services to and from the main coach.)

Joining your holiday

Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.

Meal arrangements

Where meals are not included, your Tour Manager will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Optional shore excursions

Optional excursions are available on all cruises, and we recommend that you book now to secure your place. If the number of bookings needed to operate any excursion is not reached, the excursion may be cancelled. In this case your payment will be refunded in full.

Tipping

Tipping is not compulsory, but from experience we know that many passengers like to leave gratuities for the crew. An envelope will be left in your cabin for this purpose.

Dress code

The dress code on board and ashore is casual. After 7pm, in the lounge and restaurant, shorts are not permitted, and footwear and a shirt or T-shirt must be worn.

Luggage

Where possible, non-rigid suitcases are easier to store within your cabin.

Drinking water

The tap water on board is safe to drink, but may not be to your taste due to the purification system. Bottled water can be purchased on board and locally.

Itinerary changes

On rare occasions, the Captain may need to alter the Cruise Itinerary. If this happens, the Cruise Manager will keep passengers informed.

Cabin sizes

The majority of cabins on board are 10.5m square. Single cabins are approximately 7.7m square. (These measurements include the bathroom.) Standard Promenade cabins are 15m square and most have double beds (which do not convert to sofas), but they do not have a table or stool and will by subject to engine noise during overnight and early morning sailing.

Very enjoyable holiday. Excellent service from the staff, food was good and plentiful although we would have liked a jug of water at the table. The rep was a little military like and there wasn't enough time to enjoy the town on the excursion. We had great fun though and would definitely do it again.

I was extremely disappointed in the tour manager, I felt like I was back at school. It was meant to be a relaxing holiday, infact it felt like a roll call!

The evening singer kept inviting people who loved the sound of their own voice up to sing.... it was not billed as a karaoke cruise. He sang the same songs night after night, and invited the same people to sing night after night!

We must apologise if you found our Tour Manager rude or abrupt. It is always our policy to present a friendly, approachable and above all professional demeanour to all our clients, however I apologise if this was not your experience. May we also apologise if you found the evening entertainment not to your liking. We do hope that this did not spoil your overall enjoyment of your Christmas Rhine cruise.

Cannot fault the service onboard, food was excellent and plentiful and well presented by very friendly and helpful staff. The journey by coach was very long but we had plenty of rest and refreshment stops. The whole ship was warm and comfortable and we felt very relaxed and well looked after.

A relaxing break in comfortable surroundings. Best enjoyed with a group of friends - you may be unlucky with the dining arrangements and be placed with people you do not get on with.
Staff and crew excellent, however Newmarket rep needs a refresher in interpersonal skills.

Rather surprised to receive an envelope for tips to the Cruise Director! This does not happen on ocean cruising also the Captain was mentioned as having a share of the crew tips. Again surely he must receive a good salary and should not rely on tips. The standard of food was excellent but the portions were very small. Tea making facilities in the cabin would be nice.
