Fascinating fact: Moorish poets described the Alhambra as "a pearl set in emeralds," an allusion to the colour of its buildings and the woods surrounding them.

You say: "We wanted a taster of Andalucia, and the Seville, Granada and Classic Spain tour gave us a superb one. A well-managed experience of the highlights of this region."

Your Base: Hotels in Antequera, Andalucia

The Andalusian resort of Antequera lies on a plain between mountains and olive-covered hills, its shops, bars and restaurants offering a friendly welcome to visitors. The town has a long history, which can be traced back through the 13th-century castle and its Roman baths all the way to the nearby prehistoric burial chambers like Cueva de la Menga.

Seville, Granada And Classic Spain Holiday Itinerary

Day One: Fly to Spain

Fly to Malaga, and make the one-hour transfer by comfortable, air-conditioned coach to your hotel in Antequera.

Day Two: Included Seville excursion

Today's full-day trip takes us to Seville. Explore the city's orange-tree-fringed squares, and see the huge cathedral, the Giralda Tower and the Moorish royal palace - the Alcazar. Seville is also home to many excellent tapas bars, so be sure to stop for tapas and a glass of fino sherry (payable locally) during your visit.

Day Three: Optional Cordoba excursion

Spend today relaxing and exploring Antequera, or join our full-day excursion to the city of Cordoba. This elegant, former Roman and Moorish capital of Spain has La Mezquita, an immense Mosque into which a Christian cathedral has been incorporated, at its heart. After a guided tour of this magnificent building, you'll be free to explore the narrow lanes and corridors of the nearby ancient Juderia.

Day Four: Included Ronda excursion

On today's full-day excursion, you'll travel through a countryside dotted with villages of whitewashed houses, to Ronda. Set above the dramatic El Tajo gorge, which cuts a swathe through the sierra, this once-Moorish citadel is a maze of narrow streets and fine Renaissance houses. Don't miss the Plaza de Toros, Ronda's legendary 18th-century bullring, and perhaps cross the Puente Nuevo bridge, which spans the gorge and links the new and old towns. You'll also see the city's fascinating Roman-style baths.

Day Five: Included Granada excursion

Today, we'll journey to Granada. Set in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, this great city incorporates many of Spain's most important examples of Moorish medieval architecture. Your time here will include a guided tour of the Alhambra. This outstanding UNESCO World Heritage Site is both a forbidding fortress and a palace where intricate towers and colonnades cluster around courtyard mosaics and beautiful formal gardens.

Day Six: Fly back to the UK

Transfer back to the airport and check in for your flight home.

The holiday could have been so much better if 1) I didn't have to stay up all night and get a taxi at 3am to the airport, 2) The tour manager was pretty useless (happy to expand) - I have been on a lot of these kind of holidays (incl with Newmarket) and have found tour managers to be a lot more informative and helpful, 3) hotel and food were fine except bed was hard as concrete, no tea making facilities, no designated Newmarket table in the dining room so I often dined on my own (I choose a group holiday so I don't have to do this) - other tour groups at the hotel had their own designated tables.

Lazy tour manager did the minimum required. Eg. Seville - 'here is the cathedral tour, you can't get in till 14:00 (current time 11:00), here is the queue for the Alkazar, goes down very quickly'. The queue was over 200m long, we walked off in disgust, though some were lucky when an English speaking guide called them out of the queue. Why didn't she tell us about on-line booking? Why didn't she help us locate an English speaking guide? Basically our day in Seville was a total waste of time as we couldn't even get a tour of the bullring (all full). Better preparation by her would have helped to make this a satisfactory day for her clients!!!! Having got wise to her approach, we all did our own research and managed our days at the other cities to make sure we got what we wanted from the tour. Fortunately I had a guide book and access to the internet. The tour manager needs to be replaced.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our flight times were perfect and transfers went smoothly. Our trip to Seville coincided with the bank holiday and it was exceptionally busy making it difficult to see everything we wanted to see. The other excursions were brilliant. Cordoba was our elective excursion but we feel it was much better than Seville and the tour guide Terence was just excellent.
The hotel was a little dated but very clean and all of the staff were lovely. A good selection of food at breakfast time.
