Festive style and traditional Danish hygge
The stylish yet historic Danish capital, one of Europe's most vibrant cities, puts on a special show for the Christmas Season, with the shops, bars and cafes dressed in their festive finery, and the streets sparkling with twinkling lights and colourful decorations.
Fly to Copenhagen, meet your Tour Manager and transfer to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy your first taste of this delightfully friendly, compact and 'walkabout' city, which exudes the warmth, welcome and conviviality that the Danes call 'hygge'. Wander the quayside at Nyhavn, take a first stroll down the famous shopping street, Stroget, or take a seat in a bar or cafe, soaking up the festive atmosphere.
Enjoy this morning's included guided tour, which will reveal the city's major sights. See the fabled Little Mermaid, the city's most enduring symbol; the nearby Amalienborg Palace, home to Queen Margrethe; pretty Nyhavn, with its restaurants, bars and Christmas market stalls; and the elegant main square, Kongens Nytorv. After the tour, discover Stroget's sparkling stores, including Royal Copenhagen Porcelain and its famous decorated Christmas tables.
This evening, perhaps pay a visit to world-renowned Tivoli Gardens (entrance payable locally), where another magical Christmas market is held in the park's wooded acres. Stalls, decorations, sparkling lights, an ice rink and restaurants serving festive fare and mulled wine all contribute to the perfect winter-wonderland setting.
Today brings another chance to enjoy the delights of Copenhagen, though many will wish to join our optional half-day excursion to spectacular, UNESCO-listed Renaissance Kronborg Castle, the glorious inspiration for Elsinore in Shakespeare's Hamlet. Journey through the picturesque countryside of North Zeeland to the castle, set at the narrowest point of the strait that divides Denmark from Sweden.
This evening, try another of the city's host of restaurants, perhaps enjoying a traditional Juleol - specially brewed Christmas Ale - or tucking into a traditional 'Christmas Table' meal.
Bid farewell to Copenhagen, transferring to the airport for your flight home.
The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately 30 minutes.
Hotel transfer times
We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.
