Rome and Sorrento Holiday Itinerary

Day One: Fly from the UK to Italy

Fly to Rome, or Naples, meet your Tour Manager and relax on our coach as you transfer to your hotel.

Day Two: Included Rome guided tour

Join your Tour Manager for a guided tour of Rome's best known sights, this morning. See the ancient Forum and the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, the imposing sculptures of the Trevi Fountain and much much more. Afterwards you're free to explore the museums on the Capitoline Hill, gaze up at the Pantheon from the world-famous Piazza Navona, shop, explore or just enjoy "la dolce vita".

Day Three: Optional Vatican City tour

On today's optional excursion we'll cross the Tiber to Castel St Angelo and the Vatican City, where St Peter's Square is dominated by the majestic dome of the Basilica. Step inside to see Bernini's baldacchino and Michelangelo's Pieta before completing your visit by viewing Michelangelo's unparalleled frescoes and ceiling in the Sistine Chapel.

Day Four: Included day trip to Monte Cassino

Leaving Rome behind, we'll travel through rolling hills to Monte Cassino, which has been the site of one of Italy's most important monasteries for nearly 1500 years. Almost destroyed during one of the last great battles of the Second World War, it was faithfully rebuilt and stands, today, as a working monastery and monument to the 4000-plus soldiers who lost their lives there.

Moving on, we'll head to the Bay of Naples and stop at Pompeii for a guided tour. Buried by ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted in A.D.79, the city was rediscovered in the 18th Century and now offers visitors an astonishing glimpse of everyday life in Early Imperial Rome.

From Pompeii we'll head to our final destination, and our second hotel, in Sorrento, in time for dinner.

Day Five: Day at leisure

Spend today relaxing. Window-shop your way along the Corso Italia to the Piazza Tasso, then head down to the seafront to watch the boats in the town's Piccola and Grande marinas.

Day Six: Included journey along the Amalfi Drive

On today's included excursion we'll follow the Amalfi Drive as it winds its way past sheer rock faces and gleaming blue waters. See Positano's cliff-side cluster of houses and hotels, Amalfi's cathedral and main square, and Ravello. Expect a day of astonishing views and unforgettable Italian scenery.

Day Seven: Optional excursion to Capri

Today on our optional excursion, we cross to Capri, the magical Isle of Dreams. Enjoy the spectacular views from Villa San Michele in Anacapri or as you ride the chair lift to the top of Monte Solaro (payable locally), and perhaps take a boat trip to the famous 'Blue Grotto' or wander the streets of chic, cosmopolitan Capri Town.

Day Eight: Fly back to the UK

Board our coach as head back to the airport in time to check in for your flight home.

The transfer time upon arrival is 45 minutes from Rome airport, and three hours and 30 minutes from Naples. On the return the transfer time to Naples is one hour and 15 minutes, and four hours to Rome.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Changes to your hotels

Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 € and 3 € per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your tour manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.

Salisbury Couple
Disappointed as it was too much of a rushed tour and in hindsight it would be better to do each location individually.

It did not help when reaching Rome airport that both our cases were lost!! My partner's eventually arrived 2 days later at the hotel. Mine unfortunately has been officially declared lost!

Bonus points to tour manager Daniela and staff at hotel Romoli for all their helpful assistance.

Leaving all that aside - Romoli hotel staff exceptional - out of central location and does not have a restaurant but there is a limited menu in the evenings which are tasty dishes. Breakfast is good continental and nice outlook.

Hotel itself is good accommodation with fridge etc well looked after but in a residential area - bit too far from city - local restaurant and nice local bars that do assorted menus (but not normally weekends).

Tours - Vatican definitely would not recommend it as it is too rushed because of lack of control on visitors, which meant 'rushed' or be trampled!! Very good guide but spoilt by lack of Vatican control!

Other tours etc in Rome was good and it really needs a week there to appreciate everything .... i.e. too rushed for 3 days ....

Monte Cassino visit and Pompeii visits en route to Sorrento very good but a long trip....

Hotel Villa Igea - was a different proposition..... Looked good (except maybe a garage in former days with petrol forecourt still in use) ..... reception staff really good and shuttle bus driver. Unfortunately, totally let down by serving waiters and food quality. Rooms and service left a lot to be desired - needed a lot of refurbishment.

Not sure if Newmarket had a limited budget but food and service was atrocious , in fact most of the group ate elsewhere rather than put up with poor quality food (tinned peas, carrots, etc) .... Waiters well... defied description .... not typical happy Italian waiters .... ruined most of the groups holiday ...

Almalfi tours etc and Daniela were really good but after aforementioned, perhaps it was a little too rushed ... and better locations etc by Newmarket would have made it more enjoyable.

Complements to Daniela and Hotel Romoli staff and the coach drivers especially

unfortunately we had our flights reschedules and landed very late in Naples, to then travel for nearly 4 hours to Rome in a minibus with no proper airco, arriving at 3 am in the morning. We were exhausted.
fortunately the early morning excursion was rescheduled for the afternoon, so we could get some rest.
the tour guide was brilliant and the local guides excellent.
Rome is a treasure, although we arrived with very hot weather.
Monte Casino was brilliant, we opted out of Pompei as again it was too hot, but will visit this again, perhaps in the spring to fully explore Pompei and Herculaenium.
Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast were beautiful, and the views over the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius breath taking.
Although expensive we enjoyded a carriage ride through Sorrento. The churches were wonderful.
the Isle of Capri was fantastic, including a ride on the chair lift with stunning views (beware food and drink and sovenires etc very very expensive )
The 2 hotels in Rome ( B&B ) and Sorrento ( half board ) were clean but basic for 3 star. The food in our Sorrento Hotel was a little disappointing in the evening, breakfast was good.
Again our flight was rescheduled for the return trip and further delayed. So wer arrived home again in the early hours

We got 6 full days instead of the eight day it was advertised for due to changes in flight times which was very disappointing. The dates were from 17th June to 24th however we didn't,t get to the hotel until early hours of 18th June and left at 5.20am on Sat 24th June so in effect only had the 18th to 23rd June in italy😡

BRUCE

Trip to Rome was first after many years' absence. The weather was hot for June, which made the Vatican excursion doubly uncomfortable, as it was very crowded, but interesting, nevertheless. Sorrento was relaxing, and the hotel excellent.

The worst part was the experience of flying from Naples airport, as the Easyjert baggage drop-off was initially understaffed, directions to departure gates either lacking or unhelpful, plus we had to queue on the tarmac in very hot sun to enter the plane from the front, while being refused entry to the rear entrance, which was open - our seat was near the rear, so it was made doubly difficult.

The Hotel Romoli evening meal was not good. Breakfast was good on the roof top terrace. Very friendly staff but one member of staff in the evening to take food orders, cook food, serve food, clear tables AND serve at the bar! We ordered pasta and it was a 4" square of microwaved lasagne served lukewarm.

The Hotel villa Igea in Sorrento was lovely, but no fridge to keep drinks cold as it was so hot. 39 degrees!

We were under the impression (perhaps mistakenly) that we would be on one coach for the entire holiday, but the coaches used are the ones that ferry people from the airports to hotels. In the week that we were there, we had 11 different coach drivers.
