Day One

Join our coach at your pick-up point this morning, and head to the medieval market town of Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. This picturesque town hosts a weekend craft market, and you'll also find a range of independent retailers and boutique shops.

Visit Shakespeare's Birthplace, where costumed guides will take you back in time to explore his literary life, or discover the quirky designs and installations at Stratford's new Mechanical Art and Design museum. After time to explore, and perhaps enjoy an early dinner in a traditional pub (payable locally), we'll continue to our overnight hotel, arriving by mid evening.

Day Two

After a buffet breakfast, this morning, we head to Blenheim Palace - one of Britain's finest stately homes. Stroll through the grand rooms - lavishly decorated with wreaths, garlands and giant Christmas trees lit up by 1.5 miles of festive lights - and see the State Dining Table laid for a sumptuous Christmas dinner. Carol singers, organists and brass bands add to the festive atmosphere.

Blenheim Palace's Great Courtyard plays host to the Living Crafts for Christmas fair, voted number one of the 10 best Christmas markets by Country Living magazine in 2016. With over 150 stalls, the fair offers all manner of gifts and tasty delicacies, from stocking-fillers to decorations and trinkets, and traditional British produce.

You may like to round off your day with a wintry stroll through the magnificent grounds to Vanbrugh's much-photographed Grand Bridge, before we begin our journey home in the late afternoon, arriving back in the local area during the late evening.

I would have liked to have spent longer in Stratford upon Avon as it was worth exploring. The hotel was comfortable ,although I was still a little peckish after dinner and breakfast was slightly disorganised. But on the whole an informative trip and the guide certainly knew her stuff.
Thank you Newmarket

A great 2 day break; the only downside was the weather which obviously can't be helped. It was very wet and because of this Blenheim Palace was unbelievably crowded, so much so that the facilities were inadequate for the number of people there. Too much time was wasted in queueing for the toilets and queueing for food (and then eating standing up)! Of course none of this was the fault of Newmarket Holidays or anyone for that matter. We had a lovely afternoon at Stratford and the Holiday Inn, south Coventry, where we stayed overnight was excellent. The room was spotlessly clean, the restaurant had atmosphere and the food was lovely. All staff we encountered were very courteous and friendly. The journey was comfortable and uneventful thanks to a very professional coach driver and Bernadette, our tour manager, was extremely knowledgeable and made it her business to make sure everyone was happy and well informed. On our way home, she had a chat with everyone on the coach individually asking if we had enjoyed the trip. We couldn't have asked for better care and attention.

Overall quite good, the pre-made sandwiches at the palace were stale, more duck bread than fresh bread but that's not the fault of Newark. We could have done with another 2 hours stay at each of our destinations as we didn't manage to see it all but a couple of reason for this were motorway traffic and too many passanger pick-ups.
