Resort Information

The Bay of Naples is a holidaymaker's dream. Along and above its delightful coastline, welcoming villages and resorts look out over the clear, blue waters of the Mediterranean.

Sorrento

Sorrento's wonderful cliff-top setting, stylish Corso Italia, maze of alleyways, and lively Piazza Tasso, make it the perfect Italian seaside resort. Spend your evenings relaxing in one of the many cafes and bars, and watch the locals enjoying a gentle passeggiata after the heat of the day.

Sant Agata

The village of Sant Agata del Due Golfi boasts stunning views across both the Bay of Salerno and the Bay of Naples, and offers visitors a small selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Six miles from Sorrento, it's a calmer, cooler alternative to the lively energy of the larger resort.

Itinerary

Day One

Fly from your selected airport to Italy and transfer to your hotel.

Day Two

Relax at your hotel, today, or explore the surrounding area. Our Tour Manager is sure to have plenty of suggestions if you're wondering where to start.

Day Three

Discover the dramatic history of Pompeii on our first optional excursion, today. Buried beneath volcanic ash in AD79, this ancient Roman city lay forgotten until the 18th Century. Hear the fascinating stories of Pompeiian life, and see the villas, temples and frescoed houses that subsequent excavations have exposed.

From here we'll follow the curve of the bay, past Vesuvius, to Naples. Explore the city's historic centre, which radiates off from the Spaccanapoli - the long straight narrow street whose name translates as 'Naples Splitter' - and gaze across the Piazza Plebiscito to the curved collonades of San Francesco di Paolo on a guided tour that will also reveal the Royal Palace, Castel Nuovo and the astonishing view across the bay to Vesuvius from Posillipo.

Day Four

After a walking tour through Sorrento's oldest quarter, today's optional excursion will take us into the Campania countryside for an insight into the region's traditional farming and food. You'll have the chance to taste and buy regional delicacies as we visit a local wine cellar, an ancient olive press and a farm where the region's famous mozzarella is hand-made.

The day will also include a drive through some of the region's smaller towns, boasting spectacular views of the due golfi of Naples and Salerno.

Day Five

Experience unforgettable views of vast cliffs, deep gorges and dizzying bridges from the Amalfi Drive - one of Europe's most scenic coast roads. See lovely Amalfi, the colourful, Moorish houses of Positano, and the alleys, stairways and roofed passages of mountainside Ravello, on today's optional excursion.

Day Six

Capri, the Isle of Dreams, is the destination for our next optional excursion. Take in the magical views from Anacapri's Villa San Michele, visit the summit of Solare by chair-lift (payable locally) and stroll the streets of the island's main town as you browse its designer stores and boutiques.

Day Seven

Relax in the hotel, or explore your surroundings a little more, as you spend a final day at leisure.

Day Eight

Transfer back to the airport, today, and check in for your flight back to the UK.

Further Information

Meals in Italy

Guests on half-board arrangements will be served a three-course evening meal, and can expect a first course of traditional pasta or soup, a main meat or fish course accompanied by one or two types of vegetable, and a simple dessert of fruit, cake or Italian ice cream. Breakfasts will usually consist of bread rolls, jam, cereal, ham, cheese, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Menus will vary from hotel to hotel, but choice will be more limited than in a normal restaurant. In some instances, individual guests who have booked with the hotel independently may be offered a different menu from those who are staying at the hotel as part of a package tour.

Entrance fees

Since some attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour from Naples and four hours from Rome.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 € and 3 € per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your tour manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

We stayed in Hotel Rivage which was very central. Breakfast good although somewhat rushed due to early start of some trips. Did all four trips which were good. Also got train to Herculaneum which was easy to find and somewhat different to Pompeii.

Overall this was a VG holiday & we saw a lot and the tour guides were knowledgeable & helpful. What shortcomings there were are as follows:
- B&B (Hotel Angelina) was a bit basic - the room was good, but the breakfasts basic & unadventurous - more fruit/yoghurt/toast would've been appreciated. Similarly the "picnic" breakfasts to take-out were v basic & uninspiring, esp for long days out - which was the norm.
- the chosen lunch spots (Monte Cassino/Casserta & Amalfi Coast) couldn't cope with our numbers - better, more efficient venues must be selected, esp when its quite clear that they are there & available, esp out of season!
- whilst Sant Agata was a lovely quiet hilltop village, similarly it lacked good quality eating venues (we were B&B) & it was too far away from all of our daily destinations, requiring long coach journeys to reach anywhere & early starts (7/7.30) to beat the Napoli commuter traffic!

A good sight seeing holiday taking in all the main attractions around the local area. There was also enough free time to explore at my own pace.

Have to say we were lucky with the weather but really enjoyed Sant Agata and Sorrento.
Sorrento is a busy tourist centre with lots of shops and eating places while Sant Agata is a more laid back village a few mile south but the bus service was frequent so long as you can work out what the timetable means.
My wife and I only did two excursions - the Amalfi drive and Pompeii/Vesuvius. Both were well organised and the tour guides were excellent.
Only problems at both airports gave cause for concern - with long queues for checking in and a delayed flight on the way out.
