Explore the beautiful Bay of Naples
Spend a week on the celebrated Neapolitan Riviera, one of the Mediterranean's most alluring holiday destinations. Enjoy delightful Sorrento and discover a region rich in history and culture on four wonderful guided excursions. Take a tour around the lively streets and squares of Naples, sail across the bay to the 'Island of Dreams', follow the twists and turns of the dizzying Amalfi Drive, and step into the past at Pompeii's startling ruins.
Your Tour Base: Sorrento And Sant Agata
Overlooking the sea from its clifftop vantage point, Sorrento enjoys near-perfect views of the Bay of Naples. The town's focal point is the Piazza Tasso, where the seats outside its bars and cafes make the perfect base from which to watch the locals on their evening passeggiata. Your hotel in Sorrento will be within a short walking distance of a small beach.
Six miles inland of Sorrento, Sant Agata sui Due Golfi is ideal for those that enjoy a more relaxed pace. Visitors here can take advantage of a small selection of shops, bars and cafes, and are spoiled with views of both the Bay of Naples and the Bay of Salerno.
Capri, Pompeii And The Amalfi Coast Tour Itinerary
Fly to Italy, where you will be met by your Tour Manager and transferred by coach to your chosen hotel.
Day One: Fly to Italy
What you do today is entirely up to you. Relax in the hotel, head out to wander the shop-filled alleyways of Sorrento, watch the colourful sailboats go by from the town's tiny beach, or visit one of its two small ports.
Day Two: Explore Sorrento at your leisure
Today you'll explore the eerie ruins of Pompeii, the 'preserved' Roman town famously lost for centuries when it was engulfed by the furious eruption of Vesuvius in AD79. The city was rediscovered in the 18th Century, and since then excavations have gradually revealed its magnificent villas, temples and frescoed houses.
Day Three: Included visits to Pompeii and Naples
Leaving Pompeii, you'll head around the bay, past the brooding cone of Vesuvius, to Naples, the colourful capital of Campania. Here you'll join a guide to see Piazza Plebiscito, San Carlo Opera House and Castel Nuovo, take in the astonishing views across the city from Posillipo, and follow Spaccanapoli as it 'splits' the city's old quarter in two.
After a walking tour of Sorrento's oldest quarter, today's excursion will take us into the Campania countryside for an insight into the region's traditional farming and food. You'll have the chance to taste and buy regional delicacies from a local wine cellar, an ancient olive press and a farm where the region's famous mozzarella is still hand-made.
Day Four: Optional countryside tour through Campania
The day will also include a drive through some of the region's smaller towns, which boast some spectacular views of the 'due golfi' of Naples and Salerno.
Enjoy today's included trip along the scenic Amalfi Drive. Marvel at its sheer cliffs, seemingly bottomless gorges and network of bridges. Enjoy the breath-taking sight of Positano's colourful Moorish-style houses, and stroll the streets of beautiful Amalfi. End the day with a journey to hill-top Ravello to explore its winding alleys and roofed passages.
Day Five: Included journey along the Amalfi Drive
Today, board the jet-foil and cross from Sorrento to the idyllic island of Capri, where Anacapri's Villa San Michele offers visitors beautiful architecture and spectacular views. Climb to Monte Solaro's summit on a chair lift (payable locally) and stroll through the Augustus Gardens, or visit Capri Town's stylish boutiques. Complete a wonderful day with an optional boat trip to the otherworldly Blue Grotto (booked locally).
Day Six: Included excursion to Capri
Unwind at your hotel or relax in one of Sorrento's delightful cafes on the final full day of your holiday to Italy.
Day Seven: Day at leisure
Say "arrivederci" to Italy as you return to the airport and check in for your flight home.
Day Eight: Fly back to the UK
The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour from Naples and four hours from Rome.
Hotel transfer times
We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.
Combining hotel transfers
If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
Guests on half-board arrangements will be served a three-course evening meal, and can expect a first course of traditional pasta or soup, a main meat or fish course accompanied by one or two types of vegetable, and a simple dessert of fruit, cake or Italian ice cream. Breakfasts will usually consist of bread rolls, jam, cereal, ham, cheese, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Menus will vary from hotel to hotel, but choice will be more limited than in a normal restaurant. In some instances, individual guests who have booked with the hotel independently may be offered a different menu from those who are staying at the hotel as part of a package tour.
Meals in Italy
Since some attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.
The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 € and 3 € per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your tour manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.
