Fly to Oporto, where you will meet your coach and transfer to Braga. Rest and relax at your hotel before enjoying your first dinner in Portugal.
Discover delightful Braga on our included tour. Explore the verdant acres of Bom Jesus park and the Escadaria (Baroque staircases) which climb through it, past chapels, fountains and statues, to the hill-top church. Admire the magnificent Se cathedral, and the bustling Praca del Republica, where the cafes are famous for their coffee and their atmosphere.
Today's included full-day tour is to Portugal's second city, Oporto. The ancient, time-weathered city clings haphazardly to the hillsides above the beautiful River Douro. During the day, you'll visit one of the area's famous wine lodges, and an optional boat trip will also be available.
An unmissable optional tour takes in the beautiful Douro Valley, through the romantic Amarante area and the scenic Mesao Frio to the small port of Regua, the home of port-wine. There will be a visit to a working quinta (country estate), and the opportunity to stroll through the estate's vineyards.
Leaving Braga, journey north along the Costa Verde, where the sparkling Atlantic Ocean washes the shores. Visit elegant, cheerful Viana do Castelo, home to Renaissance palaces, fine beaches and a beautiful old town. See wonderfully restored, riverside Ponte de Lima, with its exquisite Roman bridge and 14th-century towers.
You'll cross the Spanish border and arrive by late afternoon at your hotel for a three-night stay. Enjoy dinner in the hotel, and perhaps venture into the city centre.
Today's included excursion will bring to life ancient Santiago de Compostela, one of Spain's most beautiful cities. Famous as the end of the 1,000-year-old Camino pilgrimage trail, medieval pilgrims flocked to the city's heart, to the (marvellously preserved) Romanesque cathedral - possibly one of the earliest tourist destinations.
Explore Santiago, or join our last optional excursion, which visits magnificent Vigo. See its stunning fjord setting, vast natural harbour, and perhaps visit the bustling fish market. You'll also discover Pontevedra, the epitome of a Galego town, with its pedestrianised old quarter, tapas bars and restaurants. Afterwards spend a last evening in Santiago.
Transfer back to Oporto for your return flight, at the end of a truly wonderful holiday.
Hotel transfer times
The transfer time from Oporto to Braga is approximately 45 minutes. For the return journey, the transfer time from Santiago de Compostela to Oporto is two and a half hours.
Combining hotel transfers
We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.
If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair or electric scooter, please let us know as soon as possible so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.
