In an age of vast, impersonal, floating hotels, 22,000-tonne Marco Polo, her profile marking her out as the epitome of sea-going elegance, is a beautiful ocean-liner in the classic tradition. Offering high levels of comfort, sumptuous dining and a genuinely warm welcome from the crew, Marco Polo will offer everything you'd expect of such a high-class vessel.
The greatest pleasure of a cruise holiday is the knowledge that as each day dawns, there'll be a new adventure to enjoy, a new experience to savour.
N.B. All days not listed are spent at sea enjoying the excellent facilities aboard Marco Polo. Please see the Full Itinerary for details.
Make your way to Edinburgh and Leith to board Marco Polo and settle in before her afternoon departure.
Today is spent at sea, enjoying the atmosphere on board and getting to know Marco Polo's wonderful range of on-board amenities.
Tiny Torshavn, capital of the remote Faroe Islands, welcomes us today. These islands have a deep-rooted Norse tradition and are home to countless bird species. Today, you might cross the famous 'Bridge across the Atlantic', which connects Streymoy, the main island, with smaller Eysturoy, home to wooden churches and spectacular scenery.
The Shetland Island capital, Lerwick, is gateway to a rugged land of ancient legend, traditional crafts and an incredible abundance of bird-life. Spend time in Lerwick town, or join an excursion to the 3,000 year-old archaeological site at Jarlshof, with its Bronze and Iron Age remains.
Marco Polo anchors off Stornoway, the capital of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, today. Perched on the very edge of Britain, these unspoiled islands have been inhabited continuously for over 6,000 years. Explore the town, or take the excursion to the mysterious and ancient Standing Stones at Callanish, thought to be nearly 4,000 years old.
Our final port of call is Kirkwall, the historic capital of Orkney. Visit magnificent St Magnus Cathedral, stroll the meandering streets, explore the museum, or enjoy a shore excursion. Among the sights you might see are the tragic waters of Scapa Flow, the beautiful Italian Chapel, the Neolithic stone settlement at Skara Brae and the fabled Ring of Brodgar.
Disembark as Marco Polo returns to Leith at the end of this delightful cruise.
