- A very enjoyable short 3 night break. The Guide was excellent and the optional tours where very good especially as we had such good weather on the Giants Causeway tour.
The Titanic Experience was very interesting especially the slipway and the outline of the Titanic engraved on the slipway. The Titanic Experience building was very interesting with a few eye opening surprises. We also had a guided tour (not included) of the Nomadic which is the last remaining White Star vessel in dry dock very close by.
The tour of Belfast was interesting but also depressing. It needs to be done so as to emphasis how some people in Belfast still exist and that there are still social problems and issues that need to be seriously addressed by the local government. Here the guide came into her own and was very good explaining the current situation.
The day out to the Giants Causeway and the Antrim coast was excellent especially as we were so fortunate to have crystal clear weather. Not to be missed.
The hotel Ramada Encore was OK albeit there were no facilities in the rooms to unpack (no draws and only two hooks on the wall to hang jackets shirts etc) whereas we had to 'live' out of the suitcase. The bedside lamp to one side did not work and the hotel was unable to repair it as the lamp is no longer available. Had to use a torch to read a book.
The room facilities were fine with Tea/Coffee, TV and free Wi-Fi. Couldn't understand the towel system in the wet room shower and there was no where to dry off large towels again no where to store anything.
Breakfast was fine with a buffet style system with plenty of choice. Seems that the younger generation of Belfast endeavour to drink Belfast dry Fri/Sat evenings and then stay at the Ramada. Do request non front facing rooms preferably above the 2nd floor and expect some late noise Fri/Sat mornings- otherwise fine. The Reception staff were excellent and very helpful.
Flights by EasyJet were fine with the facilities to book seating when printing off the boarding pass. Coach collection etc was excellent as was the driver Michael especially with his choice of music.
Overall it was a worthwhile experience and I'm jolly glad I did it -- Well done Newmarket!
By the way did you know that there are no water rates in Northern Ireland and gas and electricity charges are considerably cheaper than in England?
