Every Christmas, Chatsworth House is transformed with specially decorated treas, displays of foliage and sparkling lights. Don't miss your chance to see the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire in all its festive glory, and to visit the historic, riverside city of Chester.
Single rooms are available for a supplement
Leaving the local area this morning we'll head to Chester. Arriving in the early afternoon, you'll be able to explore the famous Rows - galleried tiers of shops dating back to medieval times - visit the cathedral and walk the city walls before we continue to our overnight hotel.
Today's highlight is our visit to Chatsworth. Upon arrival you're free to explore the three gift shops, the stableyard stalls selling mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and mince pies, and the 105-acre garden.
At a prearranged time during your visit, you'll also enjoy a pre-booked, self-guided tour of the house, which is transformed at Christmastime. The rooms are beautifully decorated and lit with candles, and the innumerable treasures - from priceless silver to a 'lace' cravat carved from wood - seem to take on an added gleam. Afterwards, we'll begin our journey home, arriving in the local area by mid to late evening.
