Spend time in stately splendour
Chatsworth is one of Britain's most magnificent stately homes, with a stunning collection of art and antique treasures. Then there are the acres of glorious gardens and their fountains to discover. Reach this glorious destination aboard a wonderful vintage train, enjoying a sumptuous brunch and dinner as you travel, on this simply splendid day.
Experience the glamour, sophistication and romance of a journey straight out of travel's Golden Age, recreated with beautifully refurbished and restored trains, and brought bang up-to-date with modern fine dining. Put on your glad rags for a unique and unforgettable trip.
Once upon a time, it was film stars and royalty that were treated to the exquisite luxury of trains like the British Pullman. Imagine a wood-panelled Art Deco interior, tables set with gleaming silver and crystal, luggage in brass racks and a roomy armchair in which to glide through the scenery, and you've imagined your train - part of the renowned Venice Simplon Orient Express fleet.
Once you're aboard the British Pullman, the only thing you have to do is sit back and enjoy. Depending on the time, day and duration of your trip, your journey will include at least one unforgettable meal - a freshly prepared, fine-dining experience created by the train's Executive Head Chef.
Brunch is served with a Bellini, forever associated with the famous Harry's Bar in Venice and an Orient Express tradition. On your journey, the train's traditional Brunch menu may include a fruit cocktail followed by a dish of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, as well as a selection from the bakery.
Any lunches and dinners served will be prepared on board, and feature the very best in seasonal fare, often reflecting the regions to be visited during the trip. Soup, a main course and a delicious dessert will be followed by a traditional British cheeseboard and coffee, with an additional starter completing the five-course menus.
Your sumptuous meal will be preceded by a glass of champagne and accompanied with one bottle of fine house wine per couple, selected by the experienced on-board sommeliers. You may also upgrade to a bottle of wine of your choice, and additional drinks may be purchased on board.
Traditional afternoon tea aboard the train features finger sandwiches, freshly baked cakes and scones, tea, coffee and a glass of sparkling wine. Wherever possible, British ingredients are used - Cornish-grown tea, Devon clotted cream and a sparkling pink wine produced in Kent.
Please note that our trains operate within the constraints of the rail network. All details shown on your confirmation are for guidance only. Your travel documentation, including your full itinerary and confirmed timings, will be sent to you five to seven days prior to departure. Please arrive 20 minutes before departure time.
Smart casual wear (but not jeans or trainers) is the order of the day. For dinner departures more formal wear is customary. A jacket and a tie is required for men at Royal Ascot and other race meetings. For outdoor events, please wear practical clothing appropriate for the weather conditions.
Out of consideration for your fellow passengers, please turn off mobile phones and handheld devices whilst in your carriage.
We regret that the train carriages cannot be boarded in wheelchairs. However, staff are available to assist any passengers to their seats, and folding wheelchairs can be stored in the vestibules. Some excursions are more suitable for disabled travellers than others. Please ask for details.
At any given time, the British Pullman includes between eight and 11 passenger carriages. There are four different styles of Pullman carriage, seating between 20 and 26 passengers, with various seating combinations made up of tables for one, two, three and coupe (a private compartment) seating four. Please note that, at busy times, parties of two may be seated sharing a coupe with another party of two. Parties larger than four will be seated at a combination of tables.
