Itinerary
Day One
Fly to Innsbruck, meet your Tour Manager and board the comfortable coach for the short journey along the Inn Valley to your welcoming hotel in the Tyrolean village of Vomp.
Day Two
Rest and relax in Vomp today, or join the full-day optional excursion to Lake Achensee and historic Tratzberg Castle. The stunning, turquoise lake is the Tyrol's largest body of water and its beach-fringed, wooded shores are understandably popular with local bathers.
Cruise across the lake on a steamer, enjoying the stunning views, before we head to the 500-year-old Tratzberg Castle, which is reached by a 'tourist train' from the castle inn. Perched high amongst the woods, this 16th-century gem is beautifully preserved, and is renowned for its ornate Renaissance courtyard and stunningly painted Habsburg Hall.
Day Three
Today's optional excursion is to Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart. Beneath the imposing Hohensalzburg castle and beside the Salzach river, Salzburg is a treasure-trove of onion-domed churches, elegant squares and cobbled thoroughfares. Don't miss the Castle, which towers 400 feet above the city, and offers predictably wonderful views, nor the exquisite Dom cathedral with its frescoes.
Day Four
Bidding farewell to the Tyrol, you'll board the coach today for a memorable scenic drive that begins with a short visit to Imperial Innsbruck, taking in the famous Olympic ski-jump, the historic old town and famous Maria-Theresien-Strasse, the elegant main street that faces the sheer rock face of the Nordkette.
After our visit, you'll re-board the coach for the journey, through some of Europe's most beautiful countryside, to your hotel base for the next three nights, the Hotel Loewen, in the idyllic village of Lungern, in the geographical heart of Switzerland.
Day Five
Enjoy your delightful surroundings, or join our optional excursion to Luzern, with its famous Chapel Bridge and gabled buildings, and the quaint towns and villages lining the shore of the 'Lake of the Four Forest Cantons'. Stroll the quiet streets and beside the lake shore, and discover the history of Switzerland's birth in the nearby 'Ruetli Field' and learn of the legendary exploits of Wilhelm Tell.
Day Six
Today's optional tour takes us through the stunning countryside of the Bernese Oberland to Brienz and the bustling resort of Interlaken, set below the distant, snow-capped Jungfrau and 'between the lakes' of Thun and Brienz. Explore the bust l ing streets and lakeside parks, and indulge in some souvenir shopping on this spectacular full-day excursion.
Day Seven
This morning you'll leave Lungern and drive through Central and Eastern to the tiny Principality of Liechtenstein, a land of tranquil, forested beauty and great traditions, and the world's last German-speaking monarchy.
In the Principality's capital, Vaduz, stamp-collecters will surely head for the world famous Briefmarkenmuseum before you continue your journey into Austria, heading to the wonderful medieval town of Feldkirch, where you'll spend your final night.
Day Eight
Transfer back to Innsbruck Airport (journey approximately two hours) and check in for your flight home.
