Enjoy a break in beautiful North Wales!
Visit the amazing Italianate village of Portmeirion, and enjoy memorable railway journeys taking you 'coast to coast' through stunning mountain scenery. You'll also have the chance to enjoy a tour of Snowdonia and ride on the recently restored Welsh Highland Railway.
Single rooms are available for a supplement
Leaving the local area early this morning we'll head to North Wales. We should arrive in Rhyl in plenty of time for you to unpack and relax before dinner.
Today we head to the popular resort of Llandudno, where you'll have plenty of free time to enjoy the beaches, elegant promenades and stylish shops. Alternatively, join our optional full-day excursion and see the spectacular scenery of Llanberis Pass, the pretty village of Beddgelert and the delightful lakeside resort of Llanberis itself.
For many, today's highlight will be a ride on the Welsh Highland Railway. Closed in the 1930s, the line has been under restoration since 1997, and it is now possible to travel the 12 breathtaking miles from Caenarfon to Rhyd-Ddu at the foot of Snowdon.
Following breakfast, we'll begin a day of memorable rail journeys. The Conwy Valley Line, one of Britain's most beautiful railways, takes us through heather-clad moors and mountains to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Here we'll transfer to the Ffestiniog Railway for the twisting descent through Snowdonia National Park to Porthmadog.
After lunch, we'll continue to Portmeirion, featured in the popular 1960s TV series 'The Prisoner'. Here, the ornate, colour-washed buildings and Mediterranean Piazza are surrounded by beautiful sub-tropical woodland gardens.
Sadly, we take our leave of North Wales today, and head for home. Depending on the traffic and distance to be travelled, we should be back in the local area by early to mid evening.
In the unlikely event of a steam locomotive breaking down, we reserve the right to substitute the engine with a diesel locomotive.
In certain circumstances it may be necessary to change the order in which the itinerary is operated.
Your Tour Manager will have allocated seats for you on the main coach in advance, taking into consideration any special requests wherever possible, and will advise you where to sit as you board the coach. This will be your seat for the duration of the tour. (Seats are not allocated on any connecting services to and from the main coach).
Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.
Where meals are not included, your Tour Manager will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.
If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair or electric scooter, please let us know as soon as possible so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
