Discover the many faces of America's southeastern coast - from the jazz-filled bars and balconies of New Orleans to the Caribbean-colonial streets of St Augustine, and from the Southern charms of Savannah and Charleston to the vast forested slopes of the Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains.
Fly into Atlanta. Your tour manager will be there to meet you when your flight lands, and a coach will be waiting to carry you to your first hotel - in the Alabama state capital, Montgomery - for your first relaxed evening in the USA.
Head south across Alabama to Louisiana and New Orleans, to spend two nights in the Big Easy. Head into the French Quarter to immerse yourself in the all-night energy of the city, follow the locals to Frenchman Street in search of live jazz, or join us for an optional dinner jazz cruise on the Mississippi.
Let our guide untangle the bewildering threads of New Orleans' sights and history as we explore the French Quarter and Treme on this morning's tour.
In the afternoon you'll have the chance to discover Creole life on an optional excursion into the surrounding swampland, before a second night in the city where the musical legacy of Louis Armstrong and King Oliver still burns bright.
Today we'll follow the Gulf Coast East on our way to the white sands and stylish hotels of Panama City Beach. Along the way we'll stop in the former French imperial port of Mobile on Alabama's tiny stretch of coastline, and pass the site of Florida's earliest Spanish settlement, at Pensacola.
Today we'll travel, via the Florida state capital, Tallahassee, to St Augustine. Founded by the Spanish in 1565 and redefined as a holiday resort by oil magnate Henry Flagler in the 1880s, St Augustine's palm-shaded avenues and Plaza de la Constitution carry an air of the Continental and Caribbean that's sure to charm you.
Spend a relaxing morning in St Augustine - perhaps on the beach or browsing the little malls, arcades and shops that line St George Street, Aviles Street, King Street and Cathedral Place.
In the afternoon we'll continue our tour, heading into Georgia to spend two nights in Savannah.
An optional guided tour brings Savannah to life, today. A place of antebellum mansions, magnolia-shaded squares, cotton warehouses and inevitable associations with the slave trade and the Civil War. Afterwards, wander the dogwood- and azalea-lined streets and lose yourself in a world that seems lifted from the movies and novels of the Old South.
After breakfast, today, we'll head up the coast to Charleston. Forever associated with the first shots of the American Civil War, which were fired in nearby Fort Sumter, Charleston is a Caribbean-flavoured coastal city of fine houses and formal gardens that you will discover on our included city tour.
We'll continue our journey northeast, today, crossing into North Carolina. After a visit to the antebellum plantation at Boone Hall we'll stop in Asheville, on the eastern border of Smoky Mountains National Park. Spend the rest of the day getting to know this charming, quirky mountain city. Head down to the RAD (River Arts District) to see artists at work in the afternoon, then perhaps enjoy an evening in one of the many restaurants and bars.
Explore Asheville's arty, New Age shops and cafes, today, or join our optional excursion to the Biltmore Estate. America's largest private home, the 250-room mansion and its grounds were modelled on a Loire Valley chateau by railroad heir George Vanderbilt, and offers a glimpse into the life of one of the world's richest families. See the formal gardens, winery and craft village.
Enjoy an unforgettable final day in the magnificent Blue Ridge Mountains. Hear how the 469 mile route and its surroundings were conceived, created and preserved at the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Centre before we follow its sweeping route up to Pisgah Inn on the slopes of Mount Pisgah. From here, on fine days, the views are quite astonishing.
Later, spend a final relaxed evening in Asheville.
Leaving the mountains behind we'll loop back into Georgia, heading to Atlanta airport where you'll board your overnight flight home.
Arrive back in the UK.
The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately two hours.
