Day One

Fly to Italy and make the scenic transfer to Sirmione, on beautiful Lake Garda's southern shores. Explore your surroundings after checking in to your hotel, and before you enjoy your first dinner this evening.

Set on a promontory that extends some four kilometres into Garda's blue waters, charming Sirmione is famous for sulphur springs, which have attracted visitors since Roman times. The fairy-tale Rocca Scaglieri castle surveys the beautiful scene, and the town has a wide selection of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.

Day Two

After breakfast, board the coach for a coach tour of the lake, in the company of your Tour Manager. Pass wine-growing Bardolino and bustling Garda town; popular Malcesine, sun-blessed Torbole and pastel-painted Riva del Garda. Return via the western shore's citrus and olive groves, passing Limone, Gardone and the lake's largest settlement, Desenzano.

Day Three

Today's unmissable optional excursion is to Venice, one of the world's most romantic cities. A walking tour will take you through the labyrinth of narrow streets of this fascinating place, where bridges link some hundred islands. It'll be a day packed with unforgettable sights - the Rialto Bridge, vast St Mark's Square, and elegant gondolas on the Grand Canal.

Day Four

Bid farewell to Lake Garda's shores, and head into the Dolomites, with their jagged peaks, green meadows, and Austrian-style, German-speaking villages. You'll pass through lakeside Molveno or historic Bolzano, famed for its local wine, before you cross into Austria.

Your Tyrolean holiday base is delightful Fugen. This popular hiking and 'wellness' centre has newly developed thermal baths and an open-air swimming pool. The fascinating local history museum, working dairy and bacon smokery all welcome visitors, while the Spieljoch cable car whisks passengers from the village outskirts to the heights above.

Day Five

Today's included excursion visits Imperial Innsbruck, the Tyrolean capital. Stroll along its elegant main street, Maria-Theresien-Strasse, see the 'Golden Roof' - the copper-tiled covering above the Kaiser's window overlooking the square - and be sure to visit the Swarovski store and stop for 'coffee and cake' at one of the Old Town's countless cafes before returning to Fugen in time for dinner.

Day Six

The last of our included excursions takes us to beautiful Salzburg, birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and forever associated with the movie 'The Sound of Music'. Enjoy a walking tour of this Baroque treasure trove with a local guide, before exploring the city at your own pace.

Day Seven

Your last day is left free for you to enjoy the delights of Fugen or join our optional excursion to the frozen heights of the great Hintertux Glacier. This exhilarating trip includes a journey, on the Tuxer Fernerhaus gondola, to the dizzy heights of 2660m - and the mountain-top restaurant. Expect stunning views of the Zillertal Alps and the snow-capped peaks beyond.

After a marvellous day you'll return to Fugen, and enjoy a last dinner at your hotel.

Day Eight

This morning, bid "auf wiedersehen" to your Tyrolean hosts as you begin the scenic journey either back across the Brenner Pass to Italy, or north into Bavaria and Munich, from where you'll fly back to the UK at the end of a marvellous 'lakes and mountains' holiday.

Further Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your first hotel is approximately 45 minutes from Verona airport, one hour 30 minutes from Bergamo or two hours 30 minutes from Milan. On departure, the transfer time from your second hotel to Munich airport is approximately two hours, or three hours 45 minutes to Verona.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Meals in Italy

Guests on half-board arrangements will be served a three-course evening meal, and can expect a first course of traditional pasta or soup, a main meat or fish course accompanied by one or two types of vegetable, and a simple dessert of fruit, cake or Italian ice cream. Breakfasts will usually consist of bread rolls, jam, cereal, ham, cheese, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Menus will vary from hotel to hotel, but choice will be more limited than in a normal restaurant. In some instances, individual guests who have booked with the hotel independently may be offered a different menu from those who are staying at the hotel as part of a package tour.

Entrance fees

Since some Italian attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 € and 3 € per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your Tour Manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

We had a very good time and the organisation in general was excellent. We had to wait a long time at Verona Airport for other passengers on the way out, and a long time in Munich on the way back but I suppose that was unavoidable.

I think some of the excursions could have been started a bit later. For example, the trip to Innsbruck got us there by 9.30(?) and Innsbruck on a Sunday is SHUT. It looked like a ghost town and if we'd gone an hour or so later at least the streets would have been aired.

Ute (Tour Manager) and the driver were excellent.

We enjoyed our holiday very much. The tour was well planned, the transfers were smooth and Sirmione and Fugen were lovely. Altogether a most enjoyable holiday.

excellent apart from last day when the tour manager had to leave before most of the guests in order to meet the next arrivals at the airport. we had to hope the various means of transport for getting everyone to Verona airport would turn up and fortunately they did.

The Lake Garda section was great, but Austria was a bit of a let down as almost everything in the area where we stayed in closed down 1st October - the day we arrived! Even the hotel staff had gone home after the season, VERY few staff around to help. The staff at Hotel Du Parc were very friendly and helpful, not so the Sonne. We were a bit disappointed but will certainly travel with Newmarket again, this trip was just a week too late. I was a bit hard to give the hotels 6 - the first one would have had 9 but there was not an option to differentiate.

Overall an excellent holiday. Some markings have been reduced essentially because of the sub-standard room we were allocated at the 2nd hotel - aspects of which were patently below British health & safety standards.

Overall this is a good holiday but the times of the flights meant some long journeys. The tour around the lake was not around the lake but just up one side. On a previous Lake Garda holiday we did more or less go around the whole lake with a portion cut by use of a hydrofoil. The guide in Salzburg was so boring and two hours was too long.
