Itinerary

Day One

Fly to Italy and transfer to your four-star hotel in Pompeii, close to the world-famous ruins of the Roman city that was both destroyed and preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79. Rest and relax after your journey, take in your surroundings, and enjoy your first evening in the hotel.

Day Two

Join your Tour Manager for a guided tour of Pompeii's ruins, just a short drive or a 20-minute stroll from the hotel. Enjoy a fascinating morning amid the preserved remains of cobbled streets, frescoed houses, baths, temples and the amphitheatre, gaining an insight into the lives of the former inhabitants.

This afternoon, board the coach for a journey along the Amalfi Drive, which winds its way around the cliffs above the blue Bay of Salerno. Pass high above Positano, with its Moorish-style pink and white houses, heading to beautiful Amalfi.

You'll return to the hotel for dinner after a wonderful day.

Day Three

Today, we'll head to nearby Sorrento, seemingly built "between the sky and the sea". Don't miss its colourful ports, Marina Grande and Marina Piccola, or bustling Piazza Tasso. During this hugely enjoyable day, you'll also visit an authentic, family-run mozzarella cheese farm to discover one of Campania's most celebrated and traditional foods.

Day Four

Spend an unforgettable day in the Italian capital, where over 2,000 years of history come alive. A guided tour will reveal Rome's Baroque fountains, the Colosseum and the Forum, and the great early Christian basilicas. Soak up the atmosphere before we continue to Chianciano Terme, your base for the next four nights, and dinner at your four-star hotel.

Day Five

Today you'll journey into Umbria to Assisi - a centuries-old place of pilgrimage and home of the Basilica of St Francis - one of Italy's greatest treasures. Travel back to Chianciano through the scenic Apennine hills, pausing en route in the achingly picturesque, walled city of Perugia.

You'll enjoy another dinner at your hotel this evening.

Day Six

Spend a day relaxing in the hotel and exploring Chianciano Terme (the resort's spa waters have drawn visitors for centuries). Alternatively, join an optional excursion to explore the Chianti region's rolling hills, medieval hamlets and walled towns, which includes a wine tasting at a working vineyard.

Day Seven

Exquisite Florence awaits today, where a guided tour will give you the chance to explore the city and its magnificent skyline. See the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, splendid Santa Croce and the medieval Ponte Vecchio bridge. Perhaps make a pilgrimage to the famed Uffizi gallery, and Botticelli's 'Birth of Venus', before a last evening and dinner in Chianciano.

Day Eight

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK, after a wonderful 'Classic Italy' tour.

Further Information

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time on arrival from Rome airport to your hotel is approximately three hours and from Naples Airport, 30 minutes. On departure, the transfer time from your hotel to Rome Airport is approximately two hours and to Naples Airport, it is approximately four hours.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Meals in Italy

Guests on half-board arrangements will be served a three-course evening meal, and can expect a first course of traditional pasta or soup, a main meat or fish course accompanied by one or two types of vegetable, and a simple dessert of fruit, cake or Italian ice cream. Breakfasts will usually consist of bread rolls, jam, cereal, ham, cheese, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Menus will vary from hotel to hotel, but choice will be more limited than in a normal restaurant. In some instances, individual guests who have booked with the hotel independently may be offered a different menu from those who are staying at the hotel as part of a package tour.

Entrance fees

Since some attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 € and 3 € per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your tour manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

*Low deposit of £50 applies to new bookings made between 1st October and 30th November 2016 (inclusive) only. This offer only applies to selected 2016, 2017 and 2018 air breaks only. This offer is subject to availability and may be withdrawn at any time.

The Hotel President was far better than Hotel Pompeii Resort

Our tour manager was great as was the coach driver and they made the holiday a fun experience. The hotels were basic but fine, the shower in the first hotel wasn't good and the fact that you cannot control your own air conditioning was odd. The food at the first hotel was appalling, the food at the second hotel was so much better and overall the second hotel was nicer. The tours were good and the optional tour of the Chianti Wine Trail was one of our favourites. We had an enjoyable holiday.

Couldn't fault the rep Diane and the coach driver Carmine. Overall the holiday was really good. Only disappoint was not having enough time to go into the Colosseum. We did however make use of our free day to go ourselves. I do however understand that with so much to see in Rome that it makes it difficult to see all. My suggestion would be that you could probably do with at least 2 days in Rome to see more

First hotel very disappointing. Air con was controlled by reception, which was inconvenient. Meals had poor choice and were often served cold. We and other guests were distressed to see 2 goldfish in a tiny, unsuitable bowl in the bar area. In contrast the second hotel was faultless. Timings allowed on excursions were a bit hit-or-miss - sometimes we had insufficient time (e.g. the Colosseum, no time to go in) and others we were left too long in a city with nothing to do (e.g. Perugia the cathedral was closed)

ROBERT

The first Hotel Pompeii Resort did not live up to its 4 start rating, the room was dark and oppressive and the table was battered and falling to pieces. We expected some choice from a half board option but there was not choice and the food was not warm with veg served one veg at a time later than the meat .
The Hotel President was much better all round with some choice of food server promptly and warm.
