Day One

Fly to San Francisco, meet your Tour Manager and transfer into the city. You'll rest and relax after the journey, and perhaps venture out to enjoy your first evening in one of America's most attractive cities.

Day Two

This morning's optional guided tour includes Union Square, quirky North Beach, 1960s hangout Haight-Ashbury and stylish Nob Hill. You'll then head across the photogenic Golden Gate Bridge to the bay-side artists' town of Sausalito. Return by Bay Ferry, taking in the sight of infamous prison-island Alcatraz.

This evening, why not head for bustling Chinatown or to Fisherman's Wharf's shops, bars and restaurants? Perhaps board the 'little cable car' to 'climb halfway to the stars' - or at least the enjoyable ride from Market Street over Powell and Hyde.

Day Three

Leaving your heart behind in customary fashion, board the coach to journey south, this morning, towards Steinbeck's 'Cannery Row' - fishing town Monterey. Take in the gorgeous 17-Mile Drive and visit exclusive Carmel-by-the-Sea, where Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood was once mayor.

You'll then head inland toward the historic towns and rugged landscape of 'mining country', where the desperate days of the California Gold Rush were played out in the 19th Century.

Day Four

An unforgettable day awaits, as you journey into the breathtaking Yosemite National Park. After the opportunity to take in the scenery - from plunging waterfalls and forested valleys to towering El Capitan and Half-Dome - you'll continue over the heights of Tioga Pass to stay in mountain resort Mammoth Lakes*.

Day Five

In the air-conditioned comfort of your coach, take in otherworldly Death Valley's landmarks including Marble Canyon and Zabriskie Point. You'll stay overnight at Furnace Creek Ranch, one of only two 'oases' in the National Park. You might opt for a horseback tour while others enjoy a carriage ride, and don't miss the chance to star gaze here tonight.

Day Six

Today's journey continues through the desert landscape to Nevada - and your first experience of Las Vegas, the extraordinary man-made entertainment capital. An optional helicopter flight offers the chance to view the night-time spectacle from the air.

Day Seven

Today is free to enjoy more of Vegas' countless attractions. Check out the 'mega-resorts' of the Strip and Downtown, with their gaming rooms, shopping malls and restaurants, or join today's optional excursion to an 'engineering wonder of the world', the Hoover Dam. This evening don't miss the optional dinner show 'The Rat Pack is Back'.

Day Eight

Leaving Las Vegas, drive through another stunning landscape into southern Utah, passing from desert scrubland into wooded hills. Spend the afternoon in beautiful Zion National Park, where forests and waterfalls are a lush contrast to the desert's desolation.

Day Nine

Catch your breath today as you take in the surreal rock formations of Bryce Canyon. Millions of years of erosion by ice and water have left hundreds of weird, towering red, yellow and orange pinnacles, and these resemble nothing else on Earth.

Day 10

The towering rock walls and deep river valleys of the Capitol Reef National Park are not only spectacular but were also once the hiding place of outlaws Butch Cassidy and the 'Hole in the Wall' Gang. For the next two nights, stay in a mesa-dotted landscape straight out of a western movie.

Day 11

Another stunningly scenic day awaits, as you explore the staggering Canyonlands National Park, with its extraordinary Island in the Sky sandstone butte towering 1500 feet above the ancient valley. Rest and relax this evening in the resort hotel, enjoying an included traditional 'cowboy cookout' with food and entertainment.

Day 12

Rising from the flat desert floor, Monument Valley's towering red sandstone mesas are among the most iconic of all American images. Today, you'll journey through landscapes made famous by countless western movies, and the likes of John Ford and John Wayne.

Day 13

An unforgettable day awaits as you travel across Arizona to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, formed over millennia by the Colorado River. You'll have the chance to take an optional helicopter flight for even more stupendous views.

Day 14

Make the short journey back into California, where an optional excursion will introduce Palm Springs - millionaires' playground, desert-city and former home of a host of Hollywood stars. You'll also journey to the heights above on the world's longest revolving cable-car.

Day 15

Enjoy a day of rest and relaxation in the California sunshine. Perhaps take the chance to explore Palm Springs and enjoy some shopping in the iconic shops and boutiques.

Day 16

Enjoy a brief visit to the star-studded streets of Hollywood, where landmarks include Mann's Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After this final highlight of a memorable tour, you'll transfer back to Los Angeles Airport and your return overnight flight.

Day 17

Arrive back in the UK, at the end of a truly wonderful holiday.

Further Information

Tioga Pass

The high altitude of the Tioga Pass, taken on day four of the tour, means the road is susceptible to unusual weather throughout the year. Should it be closed, the tour will divert to the south on leaving Yosemite National Park and you'll stay overnight in Visalia, California, as opposed to Mammoth Lakes. This does not unduly affect the content of the holiday.

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately 30 minutes.

Passports and visas

When travelling to the USA, British citizens require passports with an integrated chip (shown on the front by a small rectangular symbol beneath the word PASSPORT), valid beyond the return date from the USA. Visas are not normally required for entry, but visitors must apply for an ESTA online with US Immigration at least 72 hours before departure at . The current charge is $14 for British Citizens. British subjects and anyone who has a criminal record or has ever been arrested should consult the US Embassy as a visa may be required. Note too that if you have visited Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia or Yemen since March 2011, or have dual nationality with any of these countries, you do require a US visa and cannot travel on the Visa Waiver Program.

Smoking is not permitted on any coach forming part of your holiday; regular stops will be made though for your comfort en route. The majority of hotels in North America are non-smoking throughout including in all bedrooms. In general smoking outside is acceptable, but do look out for signs prohibiting this close to public entrances or bus stops.

Gratuities are a way of life in North America, and it is generally accepted that they form part of a person's earnings. The customary gratuity for a coach driver or Tour Manager is about $5 per person per day. It is normal to tip 15-20 per cent of the bill for a taxi or in a restaurant, and to leave a dollar or so per drink in a bar.

Casino age restrictions

Local laws stipulate that that there must be at least one person aged 21 or over occupying each room booked. Casino floors cannot be entered by under 21s unless they are accompanied by an adult aged over 21.

On your flight

All outbound flights depart and arrive on the same day. All return flights leave in the evening and land in the UK the next day. On-board meals will usually include lunch and a snack on outward flights, and dinner and breakfast on flight home. Soft drinks are complimentary, but some airlines will charge for alcoholic drinks.

Luggage allowance

You are permitted to take one suitcase per person on the aircraft, which should not exceed 23kg.

Helicopter flights

Sightseeing flights by helicopter are weight controlled and balanced. Please contact us if you wish to book a helicopter flight and your bodyweight exceeds 250lb. (In such cases, a seat may have to be left empty, and some companies may charge a premium.)

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Changes to your hotels

Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

Too much cramped in short period, it would have better if little extra time was allowed at places visited, time too short in San Francisco, Las Vagas and Los Angeles, we covered fair bit in short period, weather was excellent all the time not very hot or very cold.
The accommodation was excellent, but would have preferred breakfast included, at many occasion we had start early without breakfast, we were given opportunities to purchase food from supermarkets to prepare for breakfast but not the same as not use to such arrangements.

London Couple
This truly was the trip of a lifetime. Each day you see the most spectacular scenery imaginable - you can't believe it could get any better, but then the next day it is even more stunning. It was in no way a relaxing holiday; almost 3,000 miles by coach, one day here, two days there, living out of a suitcase and an exhausting itinerary. But we wouldn't have changed a thing. At least we had a day to ourselves in Palm Springs at the end of the tour! Passing through California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona it is a land of extremes - vast mountain ranges, forests, deserts, canyons, weird rock formations and other-worldly landscapes: we woke up to snow one morning and by early afternoon we had arrived in Death Valley in 100 degree heat. The National Parks were the highlight for us - particularly Bryce Canyon. We weren't too keen on Las Vegas, LA/Hollywood or seeing Route 66, but at least we can say 'been there, done that' and can tick it off the list. It would have been nice to stay longer at some hotels, particularly Red Cliffs Lodge, Moab, to enjoy the facilities e.g. Horse riding, kayaking, and less time in Las Vegas - not our scene and the only place without tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The driver, Danny, and our Guide, Garret, we're both outstanding - friendly, considerate, well organised, humorous and extremely knowledgeable. Overall: a fantastic tour - thank you!

An awesome trip. All National Parks so different.

Only disappointing evening was the included cowboy dinner which was advertised with entertainment. We were put in a room on our own - way too large for the size of the group and no entertainment. It in no way felt like a cowboy dinner etc.
