Resort Information

The spa-resort of Chianciano Terme, 60 miles from Florence, boasts a wonderful climate. It comprises two settlements - the old hill-town and the modern spa town below it - and offers some excellent shops as well as many small gelaterie, bars, cafes and restaurants.

Day One

Fly to Italy and transfer to the Tuscan spa resort of Chianciano Terme and your hotel.

Day Two

Spend the day relaxing at the hotel, or explore the surrounding area. Our Tour Manager will be happy to suggest places to visit and things to do.

Day Three

Our first included excursion offers a wonderful introduction to the Eternal City, Rome. Discover the Vatican, St Peter's Basilica, Michelangelo's sublime Sistine Chapel ceiling, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. Afterwards, you're free to soak up the atmosphere of the city that gave us "la dolce vita".

Day Four

Siena, our destination today, is one of the most perfectly preserved medieval cities in Europe - its centrepiece the shell-shaped Piazza il Campo where the traditional 'Palio' horse race is held each year. From here, we head to spectacular, hill-top San Gimignano, with its beautiful towers, medieval walls and cathedral.

Day Five

On today's optional excursion we'll travel to Assisi, birthplace of Italy's patron saint, and home to Umbria's greatest glory - the magnificent Basilica, which houses one of the world's greatest art collections outside a gallery. From here we'll head to Montepulciano, a lovely hill-top town arranged around its cathedral that boasts amazing views of the Tuscan countryside, and is renowned throughout Italy for its pork, pasta and excellent Vino Nobile.

Day Six

Revel in the wonders of Florence, Italy's beautiful Renaissance capital, today. See the magnificent Florentine skyline, explore Santa Croce and cross the medieval Ponte Vecchio. For art lovers, the Accademia houses Michelangelo's peerless statue of David, and the Uffizi, Botticelli's exquisite 'Birth of Venus' (gallery entry is payable locally).

Day Seven

On our second optional excursion you'll have the chance to discover the delights of Chianti, a region of rolling hills and walled towns usually bathed in golden sunlight. Visit ancient Castelnuovo Berardenga, beautiful fortified Monteriggioni, and Radda-in-Chianti at the heart of the region. There will also be a visit to a working Chianti vineyard and the opportunity to enjoy some wine tasting.

Day Eight

Bid "Arrivederci" to this stunning corner of the world, boarding the coach for the journey back to the airport for check-in and your flight home.

Grand Hotel Fortuna ★★★★

This fine, four-star hotel stands in a very peaceful spot, approximately one mile from the centre of Chianciano Terme.

Hotel Plaza ★★★

The family-run, three-star Hotel Plaza is located close to the shops, bars and restaurants of Chianciano Terme in the modern part of this fine resort.

Further Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately two hours from Rome, or two hours 30 minutes from Pisa.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Meals in Italy

Guests on half-board arrangements will be served a three-course evening meal, and can expect a first course of traditional pasta or soup, a main meat or fish course accompanied by one or two types of vegetable, and a simple dessert of fruit, cake or Italian ice cream. Breakfasts will usually consist of bread rolls, jam, cereal, ham, cheese, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Menus will vary from hotel to hotel, but choice will be more limited than in a normal restaurant. In some instances, individual guests who have booked with the hotel independently may be offered a different menu from those who are staying at the hotel as part of a package tour.

Entrance fees

Since some attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 € and 3 € per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your Tour Manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

March Cambs Friends
Absolutely fabulous. Daniela Prioli the Tour Manager was first class. She gave 200% of her time and we could not have had a better person. The hotel was 3 stars but we fared better than the 4 stars on the same package. The food was great, we all looked forward to it.
Everything was well organised, being 74, it was good not to have to plan anything.

Overall the holiday was very good, the food in the hotel was very good, but the room was quite basic, with a lot of outside noise.

We enjoyed the holiday as always well organised by Newmarket. Tour manager a little loud but okay. The only real bad thing is the hotel need to replace their beds, it was like laying on wood for the week, not good.
