Deck Plans

Click here to display the deck plans for this cruise.

Day One

Travel by coach from your chosen departure point, and join Olympia in the ancient Rhine town of Andernach. After a first evening meal on board, retire to your comfortable cabin.

Day Two

Olympia heads upstream into the Middle Rhine - passing Koblenz and the Ehrenbreitstein castle - through a land of vineyards, castles and villages into the Rhine Gorge beneath the fabled Lorelei. This afternoon we'll arrive in Rudesheim. Stroll along the famous Drosselgasse, and join our optional excursion to Siegfried's Musikkabinett, travelling on the local 'Winzer Express' train.

Day Three

A morning cruise brings you to the ancient city of Speyer. Join our included walking tour of this, one of the most important cities in the Holy Roman Empire, with its UNESCO-listed cathedral and fascinating Altstadt (old town).

This evening, enjoy dinner and entertainment on board, as Olympia moors in Speyer for the night.

Day Four

Olympia arrives, this afternoon, in the beautiful Alsace capital of Strasbourg. Join a fascinating optional excursion by boat through the city's winding canals, and discover its soaring Notre-Dame cathedral - one of France's great Gothic churches - and the buildings of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe.

Day Five

A leisurely cruise this morning brings you to Basel, Switzerland's only gateway to the sea. Explore the bustling Altstadt and Marktplatz, and perhaps take in the stupendous views from atop the magnificent Munster. This afternoon's optional excursion visits the spectacular Rhine Falls, with the option to take a boat ride (payable locally).

Day Six

Today's full-day optional excursion reveals beautiful lakeside Lucerne, with its restored wooden 'Chapel Bridge'. Enjoy a guided walking tour before heading through the surrounding Swiss countryside to rejoin Olympia in Breisach as she pauses on her northward journey to Kehl.

Day Seven

After a morning's scenic cruising, Olympia calls at Mannheim, from where you can join an optional excursion to beautiful Heidelberg on the wooded south bank of the Neckar. One of Germany's 'must-see' destinations, Heidelberg has inspired poets - and operetta composers - for centuries.

You'll rejoin Olympia in Mainz, and have the opportunity to take a stroll through the town after dinner.

Day Eight

Cruise back, along the most romantic stretch of the Rhine, to Cologne. Here our final optional excursion introduces the city, with its twin-towered Gothic cathedral and surrounding Altstadt, before you join the Captain and fellow guests for a special Farewell Dinner and entertainment on board.

Day Nine

Step ashore at the end of a wonderful voyage this morning, and begin your return journey to the UK.

Further Information

Joining your holiday

Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.

Meal arrangements

Where meals are not included, your coach driver will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Optional shore excursions

Optional excursions are available on all cruises, and we recommend that you book now to secure your place. If the number of bookings needed to operate any excursion is not reached, the excursion may be cancelled. In this case your payment will be refunded in full.

Tipping is not compulsory, but from experience we know that many passengers like to leave gratuities for the crew. An envelope will be left in your cabin for this purpose.

Dress code

The dress code on board and ashore is casual. After 7pm, in the lounge and restaurant, shorts are not permitted, and footwear and a shirt or T-shirt must be worn.

Where possible, non-rigid suitcases are easier to store within your cabin.

Drinking water

The tap water on board is safe to drink, but may not be to your taste due to the purification system. Bottled water can be purchased on board and locally.

Itinerary changes

On rare occasions, the Captain may need to alter the Cruise Itinerary. If this happens, the Cruise Manager will keep passengers informed.

Cabin sizes

The majority of cabins on board are 10.5m square. Single cabins are approximately 7.7m square. (These measurements include the bathroom.) Standard Promenade cabins are 15m square and most have double beds (which do not convert to sofas), but they do not have a table or stool and will by subject to engine noise during overnight and early morning sailing.

The coach arrived on time, the seating was narrow but we had spare seats to use for hand luggage. The driver Nigel was very courteous and it was comfortable drive and we arrived early. Having been on other cruises we knew what to expect of the boat and crew very friendly and considerate.
Another very enjoyable holiday well planned and carried out by Newmarket, A special thanks must also go to Peter the tour manager who was very good and knowledgeable.

Daventry Couple
My wife and myself really enjoyed the holiday, the only down side was the coach. The leg room on the coach for a journey of almost 12 hours is not acceptable. Speaking to people on the holiday this has been reported before and it looks like the company has taken no action to rectify the issue, is this a money making exercise by the company.

Kind regards

The holiday was a dream come true as I had wanted a cruise for years. We met some lovely people. The one thing that I felt could be changed was the size of the coach. We got on at Dover but a lot of the people travelled far further. My husband and I are tall and I have a painful right leg and to stay in cramped spaces for hours was unbearable. A lot of the people being older also found discomfort. This coach was also used for excursions which were sometimes long journeys. This was the one bad thing about the holiday because we all dreaded the journey home. Another thing I had to chase up the final details which were supposed to arrive 10 days before. We finally got them 5 days before holiday which left us little time to arrange for pets to be looked after and arrangements to get to pick up point

Poor start, it was our 50th Wedding Anniversary on the opening day of the Cruise so a two-hour delay across the Channel meant that we didn't arrive until 9.30 pm at Andernach, which meant that we only had two and a half hours to try and celebrate our Anniversary. We waited at Dover for 35 mutes for our pick-up Coach to arrive and this was the reason that we didn't make our scheduled crossing. For some reason we were not put on the next crossing an hour later and had to wait for the next crossing after that.
At this stage we were beginning to worry that Newmarket was not going to make our 50th Anniversary special. On our arrival at Andernach, we were very tired and not happy at the start to our special occasion. Then because of our delay we did not get the hot evening meal the itinerary promised but instead were offered sandwiches and soup. We had eaten sandwiches throughout the day and these were the last thing we wanted. We accepted the soup and asked for some bread and were offered to use the bread from the sandwiches on offer.
What a start to our Anniversary, we were really deflated when we settled down in our cabin, we are not a couple who make waves but that night we were almost in storm mode.
A good night's sleep and we were prepared to give Newmarket a chance, and are we so glad we did because from that morning moment you were FIRST CLASS in every department and we thoroughly enjoyed our Anniversary experience, which we thank everyone on the Olympic for. We will certainly be back and will pass our feelings to all our friends and relatives.
