Day One

We leave the local area by coach this morning and travel to Birmingham, where we should arrive by early afternoon. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy at your leisure.

Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market is one of the largest outside Germany, and features traditional wooden chalet-style stalls offering ceramics, candles, glasswork, jewellery and Christmas decorations, as well as traditional German items such as wooden toys, nativity scenes and marionettes.

Enjoy an early dinner before we re-board the coach and continue to the hotel.

Day Two

After breakfast, we'll leave the hotel on a short visit to the Ironbridge Gorge, for the memorable sight of the famous 196-foot long bridge spanning the spectacular Severn Gorge. Afterwards, we head to Blists Hill - the award-winning recreated Victorian town.

Experience festive celebrations from the 1800s as knowledgeable, costumed staff give you a fascinating insight into Victorian life. See the townsfolk prepare seasonal decorations and traditional presents. Browse the small seasonal market for unique crafts, gifts and local produce as the sound of carol singers and brass bands fills the air.

We'll leave in the early to mid afternoon, and should arrive back at your original pick-up point by mid to late evening.

Ironbridge was lovely and such a pretty village, would have preferred to have had more time there than being dropped in the centre of Birmingham the day before. The Victorian village was a bit of a disaster as it was freezing and very windy, we also found it very difficult to get any refreshments in any form as there weren't enough available places but I appreciate that was hardly the tour operators fault. On a more positive note, we have travelled with Newmarket a lot and overall I would recommend them to friends.

Overall this was a good trip except for the victorian town. We went to the town as the last visit of the trip and the weather was awful, very high winds. The guide decided we would spend nearly 4 hours there, this considering the extreme weather and the fact that you could walk around everything in 30 minutes. Also there were thousands of people crammed into this town and any indoor area were overflowing, so we had to endure the high gusting winds. 2 hours would have been ample for this venue and this would have helped people who had the furthest to travel. I know you like to give value for money but commonsense should have prevailed in this situation.

We very much enjoyed this whole break with Newmarket Holidays - Jay our tour manager was excellent, as was our driver, Cliff. The coach was very comfortable. The Hotel was spotless and offered a very good choice of bar food in the evening.

We loved the Victorian Town visit especially, and were given enough time there to enjoy and see everything, although places to eat were not in plenty! Unless we didn't look everywhere, but we found a nice tea room, where everyone was so welcoming.

We're glad you included a visit to Birmingham's Christmas Markets - we have been there before, but always nice to go back!

This was an enjoyable break. The only draw back as such was the cramped condition of the coach. I'm grateful that my 6'3" on n law wasn't with us! There was very little leg room and it was just as well I knew my travelling companion because we were jammed in shoulder to shoulder. Having said that, the driver Sam and Emyr the tour manager were very good. Hotel was ok, service very slow but staff were pleasant. Breakfast was good with a variety of options. Room was clean and comfortable and fortunately we were far enough away from the M6 for the noise of the traffic not to cause a problem. Birmingham was interesting and Ironbridge/Blists Hill even more so. Would recommend tour.

Can't fault Newmarket, great service and knowledgable tour manager.

Hotel a disappointment, duty manager looked stressed as if he didn't know we were coming. Maureen sorted keys out as it seemed too much for him! One small lift for 10 storeys and slow with it. Rooms lovely. Breakfast was chaos, no juice in machine, when asked for more was told to wait as they were getting hot food out. No serving spoons for fresh fruit salad, was brought out 30 mins later. I know they were very busy but the dining room manager was quite rude to people. Not enough chairs and tables, some ended up sitting in reception with plates balanced on their knees. If there had been an apology for the chaos or brief explaination it wouldn't have been so bad but we were made to feel as though we were a nuisance.
