Itinerary

Day One

We leave your pick-up point early in the morning and head to the Teesside area, stopping en route for the chance to have lunch. We'll then continue to our overnight hotel, arriving in good time to unpack and relax before dinner is served.

Day Two

Enjoy a leisurely start and a full English breakfast before we head to Newcastle's Metrocentre, which is transformed with fabulous decorations and a daily programme of festive entertainment. Browse over 340 shops - famous name and specialist stores - to find perfect presents for all your family and friends.

In the early afternoon we will head to Durham. You're free to explore for the rest of the afternoon, and perhaps have an early evening meal, before joining the crowds to experience the magical Lumiere light festival. Artists, lighting designers and community groups will create a breathtaking series of installations and projections to illuminate the city.

Details have yet to be revealed, but highlights of the 2015 festival included a colossal 'whale' emerging from the River Wear, giant coloured fish dancing in the sky and a projection showing locals climbing the viaduct. And 2017 will once again see artists, lighting designers and community groups working with light to sprinkle winter magic over the city.

Day Three

After a full English breakfast we'll journey to historic York. Visit the glorious Minster or the famous National Railway Museum, walk the city walls or explore the Shambles - medieval cobbled streets full of fascinating shops. We'll head home in the afternoon, arriving back at your pick-up point by mid-to-late evening.

Too long travelling. 10.5 hours in total to get to Durham. A stop on the way at shopping mall is not what we wanted.
If we had arrived at the hotel earlier we could have had a lovely swim sauna etc instead of shopping for 2 hours.
York is a fab place and it would be ideal to focus the trip on that and the lights as an extra in our opinion.
Driver seemed worried about the traffic and some issue about "his hours". I didn't really need to know that and it made me anxious for him. He was a nice guy though.
Tour rep was a lovely lady {Leslie} but she was as anxious as the driver when we ran into some traffic issues.
Its opened my eyes as to the itinerary of coach trips and if we went on another I would fully investigate exactly what would be happening en route.
Many thank,
Jackie.

We generally enjoyed the break, however, when booking in future I would make a point of finding out where we were going to have to stop,on route as the coach journeys where excessively long not helped by the fact that the coach driver got lost adding an extra hour to our transfer to York, only giving us just over 2 hours there - very little explanation/apology given. Also, in Durham, the tour guide seemed to know very little about what was on display, had she informed us that we could purchase a Lumiere guide from the Town Hall for ?1 it would have been helpful. Also, the coach driver miscalculated his refuelling and we had to make an extra stop on our return journey which was annoying.

A very long journey-Bournemouth to Durham via Sherbourne, Shepton Mallet, Bristol, Cheltenham, Donnington Park via Birmingham outskirts to the M1!. Only two people picked up on two occasions - thought the minimum was four per pickup?
