Day One

Travel, by coach from your selected pick-up point, to join Olympia in Cologne, the spectacular Rhineland capital. Enjoy dinner and, time-permitting, step ashore to soak up some of the city, before Olympia sets sail up-river.

Day Two

Awake as Olympia sails into the River Moselle, heading to pretty Cochem. The town nestles beneath the fairytale turrets of the Reichsburg castle, which can be explored on this afternoon's optional excursion. Later, stroll Cochem's delightful streets, and perhaps enjoy an optional wine-tasting in one of the famous weinstuben (taverns), before dinner on board.

Day Three

Olympia slips away from Cochem this morning, and cruises along the scenic Moselle to the twin towns of Traben-Trarbach. Wander the streets of this pretty medieval city - once the second busiest wine trading city in Europe. See lovingly preserved half-timbered houses, and perhaps pass beneath the Belle Epoque twin towers that guard the gateway to the bridge between the towns.

Day Four

Arrive in Bernkastel this morning, and join our optional walking tour in the company of a local guide. Bernkastel's central square is surrounded by magnificent half-timbered houses, and the energetic might also climb to the ruins of the Burg Landshut castle just outside the town.

After lunch, a coach will carry you from Bernkastel to Trier. See its second-century Roman city gate - the Porta Nigra - its ancient baths and 20,000-seat amphitheatre, and join the optional walking tour for an informative introduction to the city that was also the birthplace of Karl Marx.

Day Five

After a morning in Bernkastel, Olympia makes her way downstream to her overnight mooring in Alken.

Day Six

There's the opportunity this morning to explore Koblenz. Here the river's meeting with the Rhine is marked by the Deutsches Eck (German Corner) and the mighty Ehrenbreitstein fortress. Join our Cruise Manager for an included walking tour through the altstadt (old town) quarter of Koblenz before Olympia cruises to Rudesheim.

Step ashore to explore Rudesheim's narrow streets - many like the famous Drosselgasse lined with bars and weinstuben - and perhaps join our optional excursion to see the quirky wonders of Siegfried's Musikal Kabinett.

After dinner this evening, take your place as a parade of illuminated craft and a fireworks display light up the riverbanks and transform the night sky with the blaze of colour that marks the 'Rhine In Flames'.

Day Seven

This morning Olympia sails back through the breathtaking Rhine Gorge heading back to Cologne. You'll have an afternoon to explore the city's historic altstadt and imposing Gothic cathedral before this evening's Gala Farewell Dinner back on board.

Day Eight

Disembark in Cologne this morning, where you'll begin your return journey to the UK.

Further Information

Procession and fireworks

Please note that the procession and fireworks will be watched from the ship. However, dependent upon sailing schedules and water levels, it may be necessary to transfer you by coach to a viewing point.

Joining your holiday

Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.

Meal arrangements

Where meals are not included, your coach driver will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Optional shore excursions

Optional excursions are available on all cruises, and we recommend that you book now to secure your place. If the number of bookings needed to operate any excursion is not reached, the excursion may be cancelled. In this case your payment will be refunded in full.

Tipping is not compulsory, but from experience we know that many passengers like to leave gratuities for the crew. An envelope will be left in your cabin for this purpose.

Dress code

The dress code on board and ashore is casual. After 7pm, in the lounge and restaurant, shorts are not permitted, and footwear and a shirt or T-shirt must be worn.

Where possible, non-rigid suitcases are easier to store within your cabin.

Drinking water

The tap water on board is safe to drink, but may not be to your taste due to the purification system.

Itinerary changes

On rare occasions, the Captain may need to alter the Cruise Itinerary. If this happens, the Cruise Manager will keep passengers informed.

Cabin sizes

The majority of cabins on board are 10.5m square. Single cabins are approximately 7.7m square. (These measurements include the bathroom.) Standard Promenade cabins are 15m square and most have double beds (which do not convert to sofas), but they do not have a table or stool and will by subject to engine noise during overnight and early morning sailing.

Pre-paid drinks package

Spend just £17.50 per person per night, and enjoy unlimited draught beer, house wine and soft drinks (including water, tea and coffee) between 10am and midnight while on board Olympia. All other drinks are not included. The drinks package must be purchased by every person occupying a particular cabin.

Travel very well organised particularly due to the strikes in Calais. kept informed by coaxh driver John of updates Coach very comfortable with frequent and relevant stops. Staff very welcoming and accommodating. Good quality food and service both in restaurant and bar. Entertainment good, particularly moving on to the deck area in Rudensheim to enable good view of the firework display. Many thanks to all the staff from Captain to taxi driver who went the extra mile to ensure our enjoyment, comfort and safety.

We knew the journey to Cologne would be difficult because of the problems at the port, but our driver, John was wonderful. We went by Tunnel on an earlier train than had been booked, but still encountered hold ups around Brussels. Once we arrived on board the MS Olympia our excellent holiday, truly began. The staff were friendly and fun, the ship immaculate, the food, tasty varied and plentiful and the company great. The Captain joined in our evening disco and was able to get us a perfect berth to watch the amazing firework display. During the week, we saw many other larger cruise ships, but everyone I spoke to agreed, that our group of 98 people was the ideal way of viewing the scenery in a relaxed , happy environment.

The holiday was delightful, in spite of the scorching weather! Travel arrangements were like clockwork, drivers excellent (we travelled when the port of Calais was closed to ferries and excellent arrangements were made for us to travel on the tunnel). The company on the boat was lovely, which doesn't always happen, and may I make a special thank you to James who took us from Bromsgrove to Warwick Services (and back again). Lovely man. Would recommend this holiday.
