Itinerary

Day One

Travel by coach from your selected pick-up point, cross the Channel, and continue to join Olympia in Andernach before she begins her journey along the mighty Rhine this evening.

Day Two

This morning Olympia sets sail from Andernach, heading to idyllic Boppard, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage region of the Upper/Middle Rhine.

Discover the town's Roman fort and beautiful historic quarter on our fascinating walking tour, and this evening, enjoy dinner and entertainment on board, or explore Boppard by night.

Day Three

Today, Olympia sails into the picturesque Middle Rhine, past vineyards and ancient villages, and through the narrow gorge beneath the Lorelei - the legendary rock where sirens were said to have lured sailors to their fate.

This afternoon, Olympia ties up in the celebrated wine town of Rudesheim. Explore its famous Drosselgasse, lined with bars and weinstuben (taverns), and perhaps join our optional excursion to see the quirky wonders of Siegfried's Mechanisches Musikkabinett and enjoy a wine tasting.

Enjoy dinner and entertainment on board this evening, or head back ashore.

Day Four

Cruising south this morning, Olympia calls at historic Mainz. Join our optional walking tour and discover its six-towered cathedral, Gutenberg Museum and delightful altstadt (old town), before returning to Olympia for this afternoon's sailing back through the Rhine Gorge to Koblenz.

Step ashore to stroll the street, or along the riverfront promenade, before enjoying dinner and entertainment on board.

Day Five

Olympia continues downriver, passing the delightful town of Konigswinter and former German capital, Bonn, to arrive back in Cologne by early afternoon. Explore, or join our coach excursion into the breathtaking Ahr Valley before returning to Cologne to explore its vast cathedral and the surrounding altstadt with a local guide.

This evening, the Captain hosts a Farewell Dinner on board, and there's a chance to swap memories of the past wonderful few days with fellow passengers.

Day Six

Leave Olympia and the Rhine behind this morning, and begin your return journey back to the UK.

Further Information

Joining your holiday

Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.

Meal arrangements

Where meals are not included, your coach driver will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Optional shore excursions

Optional excursions are available on all cruises, and we recommend that you book now to secure your place. If the number of bookings needed to operate any excursion is not reached, the excursion may be cancelled. In this case your payment will be refunded in full.

Pre-paid drinks package

Spend just £17.50 per person per night, and enjoy unlimited draught beer, house wine and soft drinks (including water, tea and coffee) between 10am and midnight while on board Olympia. All other drinks are not included. The drinks package must be purchased by every person occupying a particular cabin.

Tipping

Tipping is not compulsory, but from experience we know that many passengers like to leave gratuities for the crew. An envelope will be left in your cabin for this purpose.

Dress code

The dress code on board and ashore is casual. After 7pm, in the lounge and restaurant, shorts are not permitted, and footwear and a shirt or T-shirt must be worn.

Luggage

Where possible, non-rigid suitcases are easier to store within your cabin.

Drinking water

The tap water on board is safe to drink, but may not be to your taste due to the purification system.

Itinerary changes

On rare occasions, the Captain may need to alter the Cruise Itinerary. If this happens, the Cruise Manager will keep passengers informed.

Cabin sizes

The majority of cabins on board are 10.5m square. Single cabins are approximately 7.7m square. (These measurements include the bathroom.) Standard Promenade cabins are 15m square and most have double beds (which do not convert to sofas), but they do not have a table or stool and will by subject to engine noise during overnight and early morning sailing.

The coach journey was a topic of conversation throughout the holiday - 13 + hrs on an economy class coach was much too long and uncomfortable. Despite the excellent intentions of the drivers. The cruise itself was excellent and the Rhine beautiful.

The holiday was excellent, ship, on board meals, crew were fantastic. The only fault was the travelling time by coach, would have been nice to have had a heads up at the time of booking about how long it would take.

We felt the staff on board were very good.

Our only negative comment would be than when leaving the ship to look around the towns the timing in our case were either early in the morning when everything was yet to open, or early Sundays when again everything was closed.
