Itinerary

Day One

Join our coach from your local pick-up point, cross the Channel, and continue to Andernach, where you'll board Olympia and enjoy a first evening's dinner and entertainment.

Day Two

This morning Olympia sets sail along the mighty Rhine, arriving in the pretty town of Boppard during the afternoon. An included walking tour will introduce its historic quarter, the Roman fort and a treasure chest of historic monuments. You're then free to enjoy the rest of the day and evening at leisure.

Day Three

Look forward to breathtaking scenery this morning, as Olympia cruises into the heart of the Middle Rhine. See ancient villages such as Bad Salzig and Sankt Goar, vineyards tumbling down the hillsides, and fabled Lorelei - the rock from which, according to legend, sirens were sounded to lure sailors to their fates.

The afternoon brings the chance to explore Ruedesheim, the most celebrated of the Rhineland wine towns. Step ashore to sample locally produced Reislings at the bars and weinstube (taverns) lining the Drosselgasse, and perhaps join our optional excursion to discover the quirky wonders of Siegfried's Musikkabinett and enjoy a wine tasting. Enjoy dinner on board this evening, and perhaps head back into the town to soak up the night-time atmosphere.

Day Four

Olympia's destination this morning is historic Mainz, capital of the Rhineland-Palatinate and home to an impressive six-towered cathedral and an attractive Altstadt. Explore, on an optional walking tour, and perhaps visit the Gutenberg Museum, named after the late Johannes Gutenberg, who lived in the city and founded the printing press.

Re-join Olympia this afternoon as she continues along the Middle Rhine to Koblenz, situated at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle. Take a stroll along the riverfront promenade and explore the historic Altstadt, discovering the city's 2000-year history.

Day Five

This morning, enjoy a leisurely cruise downriver as Olympia passes the delightful town of Konigswinter and the former German capital, Bonn. By the early afternoon we'll arrive in Cologne, where you can choose to step ashore and explore, or join our optional coach excursion into the Ahr Valley - a scenic wonderland of rolling vineyards and quaint spa towns. Later, return to Cologne to explore its Altstadt in the company of a local guide, and window-shop at the designer stores of Rudolfplatz and the Belgisches (Belgian) quarter.

Return to the ship this evening for a Farewell Gala Dinner, offering you the chance to toast a delightful Rhine cruise.

Day Six

Bid farewell to Olympia this morning and board our coach to begin your journey home.

Further Information

Joining your holiday

Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.

Meal arrangements

Where meals are not included, your coach driver will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Optional shore excursions

Optional excursions are available on all cruises, and we recommend that you book now to secure your place. If the number of bookings needed to operate any excursion is not reached, the excursion may be cancelled. In this case your payment will be refunded in full.

Pre-paid drinks package

Spend just £17.50 per person per night, and enjoy unlimited draught beer, house wine and soft drinks (including water, tea and coffee) between 10am and midnight while on board Olympia. All other drinks are not included. The drinks package must be purchased by every person occupying a particular cabin.

Dress code

The dress code on board and ashore is casual. After 7pm, in the lounge and restaurant, shorts are not permitted, and footwear and a shirt or T-shirt must be worn.

Tipping

Tipping is not compulsory, but from experience we know that many passengers like to leave gratuities for the crew. An envelope will be left in your cabin for this purpose.

Luggage

Where possible, non-rigid suitcases are easier to store within your cabin.

Drinking water

The tap water on board is safe to drink, but may not be to your taste due to the purification system.

Itinerary changes

On rare occasions, the Captain may need to alter the Cruise Itinerary. If this happens, the Cruise Manager will keep passengers informed.

Cabin sizes

The majority of cabins on board are 10.5m square. Single cabins are approximately 7.7m square. (These measurements include the bathroom.) Standard Promenade cabins are 15m square and most have double beds (which do not convert to sofas), but they do not have a table or stool and will by subject to engine noise during overnight and early morning sailing.

The coach journey was a topic of conversation throughout the holiday - 13 + hrs on an economy class coach was much too long and uncomfortable. Despite the excellent intentions of the drivers. The cruise itself was excellent and the Rhine beautiful.

The holiday was excellent, ship, on board meals, crew were fantastic. The only fault was the travelling time by coach, would have been nice to have had a heads up at the time of booking about how long it would take.

We felt the staff on board were very good.

Our only negative comment would be than when leaving the ship to look around the towns the timing in our case were either early in the morning when everything was yet to open, or early Sundays when again everything was closed.
