Itinerary

Day One

Fly to Los Angeles and transfer to the southern suburb of Buena Park to check in to your first hotel.

Day Two

Rest and relax, enjoy the sunshine for which southern California is renowned, or join our optional excursion to discover coastal Santa Monica's boardwalk and promenade, chic restaurants and bars, and distant views of the northern ranges, and exclusive Malibu - beachside residence of the stars.

Day Three

Today we'll head south to laid-back, sun-kissed San Diego. Check in to your hotel, and then enjoy a first balmy evening, perhaps dining in one of Old Town's many restaurants.

Day Four

Discover San Diego on today's orientation tour. Highlights include the historic Santa Fe Railroad Depot and the Gaslamp District. Across the Bay Bridge, Coronado Island is home to the Hotel del Coronado, where 'Edward' first met 'Mrs Simpson', and Marilyn Monroe filmed 'Some Like it Hot'.

Day Five

Today we'll journey across the high sierra and into the desert landscape of Nevada, for a three-night stay in Las Vegas, an electrifying city of spectacular hotels, glittering casinos and sparkling show-lounges.

Day Six

Today you're free to explore more of Vegas' countless attractions. Check out the gaming rooms, vast shopping malls, diverse entertainments and endless dining opportunities of the Strip's mega-resorts, or join our optional excursion, to the Hoover Dam a man-made marvel that's now amazingly 80 years old. This evening don't miss your chance to join us for an optional dinner show - 'The Rat Pack is Back'.

Day Seven

Relax by the pool, arrange to be pampered in a spa, or simply shop till you drop on your final full day in Las Vegas.

This evening, don't miss our optional Vegas Nights helicopter flight over the Strip, and perhaps round off your stay with a show in one of the famous lounges.

Day Eight

This afternoon you'll travel to Laughlin for a two-night stay in this colourful resort-town which stands on the banks of the Colorado River, known as 'Vegas in Miniature' because of its boardwalk, casinos, restaurants and bars.

Day Nine

One of the tour's most unforgettable days awaits, today, as you visit the Grand Canyon. We'll stop on the South Rim, to take in the astonishing views across this immense chasm, formed over millennia by the Colorado River, which still flows along the Canyon floor a mile below.

Take an optional helicopter flight for even more stupendous views, before we return to Laughlin.

Day 10

Today's long journey takes you back across Nevada's desert, and over the high sierra, back into California. You'll spend the night in Visalia, economic and governmental centre of one of the most prosperous areas of California's fertile central valley.

Day 11

The breathtaking spectacle of Yosemite National Park's plunging waterfalls, forested valley floor and towering peaks of El Capitan and Half-Dome awaits you today. Soak up the sights here before we continue to our hotel in Tuolumne, in California's Gold Country.

Day 12

For many, San Francisco is America's most attractive city. We'll stay here for two nights, and you'll be able to head out and dine in style on Nob Hill, or visit the Fairmont Hotel and ride the elevator to its top floor for the very best view of the City by the Bay.

Day 13

This morning's optional guided tour includes Union Square, quirky North Beach, 1960s hangout Haight-Ashbury and stylish Nob Hill. You'll then head across the photogenic Golden Gate Bridge to the bay-side artists' town of Sausalito. Return by Bay Ferry, taking in the sight of infamous prison-island Alcatraz.

This evening, why not head to bustling Chinatown, or to Fisherman's Wharf's shops, bars and restaurants? Board one of the "little cable cars" to "climb halfway to the stars" - or at least to ride from Market Street over Powell and Hyde.

Day 14

Leaving your heart behind in customary fashion, board the coach and journey south to Steinbeck's 'Cannery Row' - fishing town Monterey. Take in 17-Mile Drive, and visit exclusive Carmel-by-the-Sea, as you head to your final hotel, in Pismo Beach.

Day 15

The final leg of your journey south takes us past small, exclusive Santa Barbara to LA. Take a brief tour of the star-studded streets of Hollywood, and see Mann's Chinese Theatre and chart the history of the city's film industry through the hand, foot (and even hoof!) prints that line the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

This afternoon, return to Los Angeles airport to board your overnight flight home.

Day 16

Arrive back in the UK, at the end of a wonderful holiday.

Further Information

Tipping

Gratuities are a way of life in North America, and it is generally accepted that they form part of a person's earnings. The customary gratuity for a coach driver or Tour Manager is about $5 per person per day. It is normal to tip 15-20 per cent of the bill for a taxi or in a restaurant, and to leave a dollar or so per drink in a bar.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted on any coach forming part of your holiday; regular stops will be made though for your comfort en route. The majority of hotels in North America are non-smoking throughout including in all bedrooms. In general smoking outside is acceptable, but do look out for signs prohibiting this close to public entrances or bus stops.

Passports and visas

When travelling to the USA, British citizens require passports with an integrated chip (shown on the front by a small rectangular symbol beneath the word PASSPORT), valid beyond the return date from the USA. Visas are not normally required for entry, but visitors must apply for an ESTA online with US Immigration at least 72 hours before departure at www.cbp.gov/esta . The current charge is $14 for British Citizens. British subjects and anyone who has a criminal record or has ever been arrested should consult the US Embassy as a visa may be required. Note too that if you have visited Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia or Yemen since March 2011, or have dual nationality with any of these countries, you do require a US visa and cannot travel on the Visa Waiver Program.

Helicopter flights

Sightseeing flights by helicopter are weight controlled and balanced. Please contact us if you wish to book a helicopter flight and your bodyweight exceeds 250lb. (In such cases, a seat may have to be left empty, and some companies may charge a premium.)

Casino age restrictions

Local laws stipulate that that there must be at least one person aged 21 or over occupying each room booked. Casino floors cannot be entered by under 21s unless they are accompanied by an adult aged over 21.

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour.

On your flight

All outbound flights depart and arrive on the same day. All return flights leave in the evening and land in the UK the next day. On-board meals will usually include lunch and a snack on outward flights, and dinner and breakfast on flight home. Soft drinks are complimentary, but some airlines will charge for alcoholic drinks.

Luggage allowance

You are permitted to take one suitcase per person on the aircraft, which should not exceed 23kg.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Helicopter flights

Sightseeing flights by helicopter are weight controlled and balanced. Please contact us if you wish to book a helicopter flight and your bodyweight exceeds 250lb. (In such cases, a seat may have to be left empty, and some companies may charge a premium.)

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Changes to your hotels

Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

Hotel rooms

Standard hotel rooms in North America will contain one or two double- or queen-sized beds, and it is not possible to add extra beds to the room. Parties consisting of more than two travellers, but who have only booked one room, will be expected to make use of the two beds provided. If this is a concern, you may wish to consider booking more than one room for your group.

The holiday was the 2016 trip.
This was an excellent holiday, action packed from beginning to the end. Up early and every day filled with new delights. The tour director was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, extremely well prepared and made each day fun. The hotels were comfortable and staff were helpful, we had no issues to resolve. The itinerary was varied and took you from one spectacular site to another.
The only improvement we would suggest was that it would have been better to have stayed closer to the Grand Canyon.
It was certainly worth the effort to endure the long haul flight for the experience of what the West coast had to offer. Memories that will last a lifetime.

A whistle stop tour of the west coast giving us a flavour of where we might want to visit again.
Visit again we will...
On the whole, we had a fantastic time, though the travelling in the coach was rather excessive. The seats could have done with some extra padding...
Personally, three nights in Las Vegas too much, particularly as somebody had gained access to our room on the first night! Thankfully nothing was stolen as we think our return to room disturbed the intruder. Our key wouldn't work so we had to return to reception to get new ones.. On our return, we found somebody had been in and were about to make off with our belongings... Our early return to room must have disturbed them and they made off whilst we were in reception changing key cards....

All in all, three night in Vegas, two nights in Laughlin and one night in Black Oak not really to our liking. All of them Casino Resorts which, as we have no interest in gambling, were not really what we have wanted. All of which in Laughlin stunk of cigarette smoke and seemed populated by very sad people. Not very conducive to a holiday atmosphere.

Six nights in Casino Hotels really meant no bars where you comfortable to drink if you didn't want to gamble. Always felt as if taking punters space?

This holiday really crams a lot in and has something for everyone - from the madness of LA, Vegas and San Francisco to relaxing San Diego and the majestic beauty of The Grand Canyon and Yosemite.

I would highly recommend booking as many of the optional excursions as possible as it just all adds to the experience.

Word of warning though! Be prepared to spend a lot of time sat on a coach - unfortunately this is the only way you'll get to see so much but I feel it was well worth it.
