Itinerary

Day One

Join us before the coach boards the ferry to cross the Channel, or book an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn Ashford, Kent, and board our coach when it stops at the hotel. Later this evening you'll arrive in Boppard, the picturesque "pearl of the Rhine", with its great Roman fort and its beautiful historic quarter. Board Olympia in time to enjoy a buffet dinner, and the warmth and welcome of your first night.

Day Two (New Year's Eve)

On New Year's Eve, Olympia sails to Rudesheim, passing pretty villages and fairytale castles en route, and beneath the legendary Lorelei rock - where sirens were said to lure unsuspecting sailors to their fates.

Spend the afternoon wandering Rudesheim's pretty streets, or join our late-afternoon optional excursion to enjoy an early evening wine tasting at a traditional 'weinkeller' and see the remarkable collection of musical instruments that are found in Siegfried's Musik Kabinett.

This evening, join your fellow guests in celebration as you enjoy a New Year's Eve Dinner and Party on board Olympia, toasting the arrival of 2017 while ashore the people of Rudesheim enjoy their own revelries.

Day Three (New Year's Day)

Around lunchtime today, you'll arrive in Koblenz. Explore this traditional Rhineland town, then return to the Olympia, and round off your holiday - and your New Year celebrations - with a special New Year's Day Gala Dinner and entertainment on board.

Day Four

After an early breakfast, bid "auf wiedersehen" to Olympia and this captivating part of the world as our coach carries you back across Europe and across the Channel to the UK.

Further Information

Flexible joining options

Our flexible joining options allow you to travel on any date, and as an added convenience we've arranged two possible pre-departure options for you. Make your own way to the Holiday Inn Ashford North and stay the night (car parking is included), and our coach will call for you at the hotel on the way to the Channel.

Alternatively, make your own way to the Stop 24 Services in Kent (M20, Junction 11), and board the coach there. Parking is available (payable locally), and we'll confirm the exact meeting point and time in your Joining Instructions.

Optional shore excursions

Optional excursions are available on all cruises, and we recommend that you book now to secure your place. If the number of bookings needed to operate any excursion is not reached, the excursion may be cancelled. In this case your payment will be refunded in full.

Tipping

Tipping is not compulsory, but from experience we know that many passengers like to leave gratuities for the crew. An envelope will be left in your cabin for this purpose.

Dress code

The dress code on board and ashore is casual. After 7pm, in the lounge and restaurant, shorts are not permitted, and footwear and a shirt or T-shirt must be worn.

Luggage

Where possible, non-rigid suitcases are easier to store within your cabin.

Drinking water

The tap water on board is safe to drink, but may not be to your taste due to the purification system. Bottled water can be purchased on board and locally.

Itinerary changes

On rare occasions, the Captain may need to alter the Cruise Itinerary. If this happens, the Cruise Manager will keep passengers informed.

Cabin sizes

The majority of cabins on board are 10.5m square. Single cabins are approximately 7.7m square. (These measurements include the bathroom.) Standard Promenade cabins are 15m square and most have double beds (which do not convert to sofas), but they do not have a table or stool and will by subject to engine noise during overnight and early morning sailing.

The holiday was very good, food also very good especially the breakfast . The most outstanding was the friendliness and the helpfulness of the crew who were always willing to put themselves out to help, and I was most impressed by their cheerful manner . I am 86 in a few weeks time otherwise I would say I would book again

We enjoyed most aspects of our holiday, cabin, food, transportation to & fro, & fellow passengers were all very good.
Unfortunately because of time of year when we did leave the ship there was not much to do, although the visit to the music box museum & wine tasting was good.

A very pleasant experience overall. The cabin, although a little tired was, on first impressions small. However we were amazed at the more than adequate storage space we had and managed surprisingly well. On any future river cruises we will opt to leave our beds down at all times as we did not find our cabin comfortable enough to relax in without the beds. There was however plenty of very comfortable public areas in which to relax.

The staff were extremely polite and helpful throughout. The tour manager Peter was also very helpful and knowledgeable.
