Itinerary

Day One

Leaving the local area in the early morning we'll head north through the spectacular Yorkshire Dales. After checking into your hotel, the rest of the evening is free for you to enjoy.

Day Two

Today we'll visit the beautiful city of Edinburgh. During the afternoon we'll head to Ocean Terminal - Edinburgh's exciting new shopping and leisure complex - to visit The Royal Yacht Britannia.

Rooms on view aboard Britannia range from the Queen's bedroom and the Veranda Room, where The Queen used to enjoy breakfast, to the engine room, the galley and the officers' ward room. And your visit is sure to provide a unique insight into the history of this very special ship.

In the early evening we'll head to the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle for the Military Tattoo - the highlight of our visit - for a fantastic evening of music, pomp and pageantry, which ends with the spectacle of the lone piper patrolling the battlements, silhouetted against the night sky. We'll leave Edinburgh around 10.00pm, arriving back at the hotel for a good night's sleep.

Day Three

We begin our homeward journey today. Travelling south, we'll visit vibrant, historic York. After time to visit the glorious Minster, walk the city walls, explore the Railway Museum and celebrated Jorvik Centre, and have lunch, we'll restart our journey home, arriving in the local area by mid to late evening.

Further Information

Evening meals

You may wish to pre-book an evening meal at the hotel on the first night of your stay for a supplement. This represents excellent value for money and is a very popular option with our clients.

Ticket upgrades

You may like to upgrade your seat for the Tattoo. The seats are located in stands in a U shape around the castle esplanade. The more expensive the seats the further away they are from the open part of the U, which is where the acts emerge onto the esplanade.

Access to the Tattoo

There is a short but steeply inclined walk of 80 metres up Castlehill, the old cobbled approach to the Esplanade. There is then a further 60-metre walk on average, followed by steps up to the spectator stands where generally, the seating is quite steeply tiered. You will have plenty of time to make your way to and from the Esplanade and will be able to go at your own pace. Wheelchairs can be sited at ground level under the North stand at all performances and disabled toilets are available on the Esplanade.

Coach seating arrangements

Your seats on the main coach will be allocated for you in advance, taking into consideration any special requests wherever possible. Your Tour Manager or driver will advise you where to sit as you board the coach. This will be your seat for the duration of the tour. (Seats are not allocated on any connecting services to and from the main coach.)

Joining your holiday

Your final travel documents, including the exact time and place of departure, will be sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure, providing all payments have been made. We are unable to give exact departure times before this.

Meal arrangements

Where meals are not included, your Tour Manager will ensure there are suitable stops made for you to purchase and enjoy lunch and/or dinner each day.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Triple rooms

The majority of these consist of a double bed and an extra bed that is often only suitable for children. If this is a concern, you may wish to consider booking more than one room for your group.

The hotel was far too far away from Edinburgh, so that we had an hour's ride on the coach before we reached anywhere. And then had quite a walk uphill- wella ctuallyu downhill first and then uphill.

We ate once in the hotel and it was rather poor.

The visit to the Britannia was very nice as weas the tea we had there.

The visit to York on the way back was very nice - but we really needed more time to see York.

The tour manager was poor and didnt give choices such as when we were running late insteadof asking is we would like to be dropped at castle or Princes Street she decided to drop us for 45mins at a Weatherspoons for something to eat. Most people I spoke to would have liked the variety of restaurants at Grass Market better, especially as the day before she had done the same thing. People were late for the Tattoo by the time we had been picked up at Waverley and driven round Edinburghs oneway system to be dropped at the bottom of a great number of steps up to the castle whereas this climb could have been avoided if we were dropped in Grass Market and allowed to wander up the slope in our own time. I realise a shopping oportunity was advertised however we did not have time for shopping and food so should have been given a choise as to what we wanted to do.

This holiday was spoilt by the travel experience. Coach arrived 1.5 hours late at pickup point as the original one had broken down and had to be replaced and because of Bank Holiday traffic we did not reach the hotel until 9.00pm. No pockets on the seat in front to put mags or sweets for the journey. Waited half an hour for the coach at collection point from Hollyrood house to Brittania and again on departure from hotel. Excuses given were driver's hours - nonsense as we had two drivers and your company should have been aware of times allowed and made corrections so that we weren't left waiting. Return journey delayed and the guides answer to this was to tell us only to leave the coach at the last two comfort stops unless absolutely necessary. I could not have been the only person going back to an empty house and needing to pick up a pint of milk as the local shops would have been closed by 9pm on Sunday evening. Her attitude was totally unhelpful.
