Resort Information

The Bay of Naples is a holidaymaker's dream. Along and above its delightful coastline, welcoming villages and resorts look out over the clear, blue waters of the Mediterranean.

Sorrento

Sorrento's wonderful cliff-top setting, stylish Corso Italia, maze of alleyways, and lively Piazza Tasso, make it the perfect Italian seaside resort. Spend your evenings relaxing in one of the many cafes and bars, and watch the locals enjoying a gentle passeggiata after the heat of the day.

Sant Agata

The village of Sant Agata del Due Golfi boasts stunning views across both the Bay of Salerno and the Bay of Naples, and offers visitors a small selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Six miles from Sorrento, it's a calmer, cooler alternative to the lively energy of the larger resort.

Itinerary

Day One

Fly from your selected airport to Italy and transfer to your hotel.

Day Two

Relax at your hotel, today, or explore the surrounding area. Our Tour Manager is sure to have plenty of suggestions if you're wondering where to start.

Day Three

Discover the dramatic history of Pompeii on our second optional excursion, today. Buried beneath volcanic ash in AD79, this ancient Roman city lay forgotten until the 18th Century. Hear the fascinating stories of Pompeiian life, and see the villas, temples and frescoed houses that subsequent excavations have exposed.

From here we'll follow the curve of the bay, past Vesuvius, to Naples. Explore the city's historic centre, which radiates off from the Spaccanapoli - the long straight narrow street whose name translates as 'Naples Splitter' - and gaze across the Piazza Plebiscito to the curved collonades of San Francesco di Paolo on a guided tour that will also reveal the Royal Palace, Castel Nuovo and the astonishing view across the bay to Vesuvius from Posillipo.

Day Four

After a walking tour through Sorrento's oldest quarter, today's optional excursion will take us into the Campania countryside for an insight into the region's traditional farming and food. You'll have the chance to taste and buy regional delicacies as we visit a local wine cellar, an ancient olive press and a farm where the region's famous buffalo mozzarella is hand-made.

The day will also include a drive through some of the region's smaller towns, boasting spectacular views of the due golfi of Naples and Salerno.

Day Five

Experience unforgettable views of vast cliffs, deep gorges and dizzying bridges from the Amalfi Drive - one of Europe's most scenic coast roads. See lovely Amalfi, the colourful, Moorish houses of Positano, and the alleys, stairways and roofed passages of mountainside Ravello, on today's optional excursion.

Day Six

Capri, the Isle of Dreams, is the destination for our next optional excursion. Take in the magical views from Anacapri's Villa San Michele, visit the summit of Solare by chair-lift (payable locally) and stroll the streets of the island's main town as you browse its designer stores and boutiques.

Day Seven

Relax in the hotel, or explore your surroundings a little more, as you spend a final day at leisure.

Day Eight

Transfer back to the airport, today, and check in for your flight back to the UK.

Further Information

2016 itinerary

The remaining departures in 2016 will follow a different itinerary from the one above, with optional excursions to Monte Cassino on Day Three, along the Amalfi Drive on Day Four, across to Capri on Day Five and to Vesuvius and Pompeii on Day Seven. The optional Campanian countryside tour is only available on 2017 departures.

Meals in Italy

Guests on half-board arrangements will be served a three-course evening meal, and can expect a first course of traditional pasta or soup, a main meat or fish course accompanied by one or two types of vegetable, and a simple dessert of fruit, cake or Italian ice cream. Breakfasts will usually consist of bread rolls, jam, cereal, ham, cheese, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Menus will vary from hotel to hotel, but choice will be more limited than in a normal restaurant. In some instances, individual guests who have booked with the hotel independently may be offered a different menu from those who are staying at the hotel as part of a package tour.

Entrance fees

Since some attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour from Naples and four hours from Rome.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 EURO and 3 EURO per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your tour manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Overall fantastic holiday excellent value. Loved the hotel Delle Palme with good food and fantastic service even though it is a bit dated. Capri trip was however not good value and not well organised. Waited 45 min fir transfer bus due to a breakdown going and busses were not well organised coming home. Capri itself is beautiful. Too much waiting for everyone at meeting times in hot sun. I would recommend this holiday to everyone as it is a beautiful area and we had the best holiday in Sant Agata. Beautiful little village and walks around. Will return and happy there is a flight from Aberdeen.

This hotel was very disappointing having no balcony, very dated furnishings, staff were a little unhelpful at times, most boring breakfasts, although evening meal was just ok. This should not be rated as 4*, barely 3*! The holiday itself was enjoyable and the excursions excellent although very expensive. I would visit Sorrento again but unsure if I would book through Newmarket considering the disappointing accommodation on this occasion.

I would recommend the hotel, it was excellent. The staff were very helpful and the hotel spotlessly clean. the food was pretty basic but nice. If you stay there, visit the owners motorcar/motorbike collection in the garage.
The village of Sant Agata was very rural, but nice, and it took about 15 mins or 30 mins depending on which bus you caught to Sorrento. The timetable for the buses was a bit hit or miss but not a problem.
The flight from Bristol to Rome was OK and on time. However, the transfer down to Sant Agata was awful it took 6 hours, instead of the 3 hours we had anticipated. One of the people in our hotel was not dropped off at the hotel and arrangements had to be made to bring her back to the hotel, she arrived 2.5 hours after we arrived. I would not recommend flying to Rome and then on, the flight into Naples would be much easier.

We are not impressed with Small Planet Airlines. On the way out we were in row 24, only 6 from the rear and by the time the food trolley reached us we had a choice of no wine and turkey & cheese sandwiches. As the plane was late leaving Aberdeen we knew we would arrive at our hotel late so had to eat something as we had left home at 1.30pm. We were eating can, etc at the hotel after midnight. On the return flight the plane was late and then we sat on the runway for over a half hour. We were in row 29 and the 2 stewards took 20 minutes to serve the 6 passengers in row 30 ! They were constantly having to refill the trollies and couldn't work out how much to charge for the food etc. On the trips we feel that there wasn't enough time at Ravello as there was a visit to a new limoncello factory where of course it was hoped we would spend money.

On the whole an enjoyable holiday. Although we enjoyed the hotel food it would definitely not appeal to many people. Quite sparse. Two trips were taken and the Capri trip was a bit shambolic but managed to enjoy it. We had the same guide for Pompii and it was an altogether more enjoyable experience. Maybe someone had had a word with her?? All said however I would recommend the holiday.

Unfortunately we started with very poor transfer arrangements from Naples airport. However our hotel was very nice. The staff were friendly and the food was good. Sant Agata was a lovely town to stay in and it was easy to get to Sorrento by bus or walking. We went to Monte Casino and Pompeii on excursions which were very good with excellent guides. We really enjoyed our week here.
