Must taste: Fresh fish from the seafood restaurants along Sorrento's Marina Grande.
Fascinating fact: Capri has long been a favourite film location. The 1960 romantic comedy 'It Started in Naples' brought the international stars Clark Gable and Sophia Loren to the shores of the island for what would be Gable's penultimate film.

You say:"I was taken aback. It's lovely: very beautiful."

Your Tour Base: Sorrento And Sant Agata

This eight-day holiday is based on the Bay of Naples, where small hillside towns and villages offer spectacular sea views.

Overlooking the sea from its clifftop vantage point, Sorrento has exceptional views of the Bay of Naples. The town's focal point is the Piazza Tasso, where the seats outside its bars and cafes make for perfect people-watching. Your hotel in Sorrento is also within a short walking distance of a small beach.

Sant Agata

Six miles inland of Sorrento, Sant Agata sui Due Golfi is ideal for those that enjoy a more relaxed pace. Here, you can take advantage of a small selection of shops, bars and cafes, as well as the wonderful views of both the Bay of Naples and the Bay of Salerno.

Capri, Pompeii And The Amalfi Coast Tour Itinerary

Every day a new experience

Day One: Arrive in Italy and your hotel

Fly to Italy and transfer to your hotel. Check-in, unpack and unwind before enjoying dinner in your hotel and taking the evening to familiarise yourself with your surroundings: your holiday home-from-home.

Day Two: Explore Sorrento at your leisure

What you do today is entirely up to you. Feel free to relax in your hotel, or get out and about and explore the shop-filled alleyways of Sorrento, watch the colourful sailboats go by from the town's little beach, or visit one of its two small ports.

Day Three: Visit Pompeii and see the sights of Naples

Today you'll have the chance to wander the eerie ruins of Pompeii, the 'preserved' Roman town famously lost for centuries when it was engulfed by a volcanic eruption in AD79.

Across the bay, our second stop is Naples. Here you can join our guide to see Piazza Plebiscito, San Carlo Opera House and Castel Nuovo, take in the astonishing views across the city from Posillipo, and follow Spaccanapoli as it 'splits' the city's old quarter in two.

Day Four: The chance to explore the Campania countryside and buy local delicacies

After a gentle walking tour through Sorrento's oldest quarter, today's optional excursion will take us into the Campania countryside for an insight into the region's traditional farming and food. You'll have the chance to taste and buy regional delicacies from a local wine cellar, an ancient olive press and a farm where the region's famous buffalo mozzarella is still hand-made. It's a trip no foodie will want to miss!

The day will also include a drive through some of the region's smaller towns, which boast some spectacular views of the 'due golfi' of Naples and Salerno.

Day Five: Take in the views from the Amalfi Drive

No trip to this part of the world is complete without a trip along the Amalfi Drive. Linking Sorrento and Amalfi, the road (originally built by the Romans) is carved out of the coastal cliffs. It provides spectacular views down to the Tyrrhenian Sea on one side and along towering cliffs on the other. You'll also see Positano's colourful Moorish-style houses, and be able to stroll through the streets of beautiful Amalfi. An experience-filled day ends with a journey to hill-top Ravello to explore its winding alleys and roofed passages.

Day Six: Visit Capri and Anacapri, including Mount Solaro

Today we cross from Sorrento to the idyllic isle of Capri. Here, Anacapri's Villa San Michele charms visitors with beautiful architecture and spectacular views across the island. You'll also have the opportunity to climb to Mount Solaro's summit on a chair lift (payable locally), stroll through the Augustus Gardens, or visit Capri Town's stylish boutiques.

For the perfect end to your day why not join our optional boat trip to the Blue Grotto sea caves (booked locally)? If you've watched our video, you'll already know why so many people think it's an unmissable trip.

Day Seven: Spend your last day in Italy doing as you please

Unwind at your hotel or relax in one of Sorrento's delightful cafes on your final full day in Italy.

Day Eight: Heading home to the UK

It's time to say "arrivederci" to Italy as you return to the airport and check in for your flight home.

Further Information

2016 itinerary

The remaining departures in 2016 will follow a different itinerary from the one above, with excursions to Monte Cassino on Day Three, along the Amalfi Drive on Day Four, across to Capri on Day Five and to Vesuvius and Pompeii on Day Seven. The optional Campanian countryside tour is only available on 2017 departures.

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately one hour from Naples and four hours from Rome.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Meals in Italy

Guests on half-board arrangements will be served a three-course evening meal, and can expect a first course of traditional pasta or soup, a main meat or fish course accompanied by one or two types of vegetable, and a simple dessert of fruit, cake or Italian ice cream. Breakfasts will usually consist of bread rolls, jam, cereal, ham, cheese, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Menus will vary from hotel to hotel, but choice will be more limited than in a normal restaurant. In some instances, individual guests who have booked with the hotel independently may be offered a different menu from those who are staying at the hotel as part of a package tour.

Entrance fees

Since some attractions visited offer free admission to visitors at certain times of year, we do not include entrance fees. These will be payable locally where applicable. This applies to excursions that are included in the price of your holiday and to excursions booked as optional extras.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Italian hotel room tax

Some regions of Italy have introduced a room tax of between 1 EURO and 3 EURO per person per night, payable directly by the guest to the hotel on check-out. You will be advised by your tour manager in resort if a particular hotel is implementing this charge.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

*Low deposit of £50 per person applies to new bookings made between 20th January and 31st January 2017 (inclusive) only. This offer only applies to selected air-inclusive holidays. This offer is subject to availability and may be withdrawn at any time.

The tours start very early in the morning but there is nothing on the website to indicate this in advance. I was not able to manage them all. They also felt very rushed and the time in Capri was not relaxing as I had hoped.
The hotel was basic as was the food. It was not desperately tasty and had a mass produced "school dinner" feel to it. The vegetarian options were not particularly good and on one occasion consisted of octopus! The staff were very friendly but it was on a noisy, busy road with lots of traffic fumes and a very "dirt" feel to the area and quite a walk into Sorrento. There was nowhere to go for a stroll in the evenings.

Overall we had a great time, all the arrangements, coach trips, visits were as described and ran like clockwork.
Didn't like Sorrento much - too much traffic, narrow streets full of motorbikes, scooters and other vehicles with the consequent taste of diesel fumes all the time.
All the trips out were as described, particularly impressive was the trip to Capri (less traffic in the towns - just) and the chair lift to the summit was magical.
Montecasino was very good, Caserta impressive, Amalfi coast a bit so,so although weather was appalling.
Will have to go back to visit the Pompeii Museum in Naples and Herculaneum as well.
Bought some beautiful furniture in Sorrento and also had some first class local wine shipped back, some Taurasi.

As very experienced travellers it was totally ruined by both very small quantitys and very poor quality food, served on cold plates and no liquid refreshments included. The room needed heat in the evening as the weather was not always warm. There was not even a small bar of soap in the bathroom. One optional trip was cancelled at the last minute, leaving it too late to make alternative arrangements.

Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday the only down side was the greet at arrival in Rome very difficult to find the Newmarket representative. All tours were excellent the guide for Pompeii was extremely knowledgeable. The hotel and staff were also excellent. Pity about the early start back 3.05am from hotel for Rome airport which took 5 hours! I know the traffic is so bad hence early start! But we would definitely go with Newmarket again.

London Family
We had such a lovely time in Italy, and would very much like to return. The hotel manager and staff were very kind and extremely helpful, especially when we needed any help or advice about getting around. The meals were very generous and always delicious, and we'd like to thank the waitresses who all did a fantastic job. Our drivers were also very good, how they could navigate those twisty roads with sheer drops still astounds me. We loved Capri and Sorrento, and had an absorbing time at Pompeii and Vesuvius. The only comment I'd make is that we'd have wanted slightly more time at some of the places we visited as 2 hours wasn't enough, may be 3 would have been better? I appreciate that we were not in the same age group as some of the other guests, but we couldn't do everything we had wanted, for example on Capri and at Pompeii. We spent a bit too much time on the coach during the Amalfi drive, rather than in the towns themselves. So we made the most of the two days of free time wandering around Sorrento and visiting Naples. Can I recommend a visit to the Museum to see the artifacts from Pompeii? It was fascinating. Altogether though, this was an excellent, interesting holiday to a truly beautiful part of the world with lots to see and do, and we would like to thank you for your care and attention to detail. Thank you very much!
